I would like to disable the validation of user action popups. They annoy the hell outa me. I didn't know how to search for this. sorry if it is a repost.

I'm guessing you want to disable UAC (User Account Control). To do this click Start and type "msconfig" (without the quotes) and hit Enter. Go to the Tools tab and look for the "Disable UAC" option in the list. Hit the Run Command (or similar; I can't check as I'm at work) button; exit MSCONFIG and reboot. Note that you'll get the annoying balloon pop-up in the system tray telling you that UAC is disabled. I think you can disable this in the Security Center.

It is probably a very short-term issue, as reasonably soon you won't be changing system things hourly and you'll have all of the privileges and directories sorted out. I have read about other apps that don't work quite as you expect with UAC off. Just keep an eye out for other strangeness when you turn it off. I only get _maybe_ 1 or 2 pop-ups a day now.

I have disabled UAC and I can now rename files without it asking me to continue 2 times, but I still get the popups when I install or open a program ie. CoreTemp.

Thanks for the help.

It is truly your system so...

If you don't mind a totally unsecure system, bring up mmc (Microsoft Management Console) - (If you need help doing this then I really, strongly urge you to reconsider; but anyway, in the start orb's search field, just enter “mmc” and press the enter key…). When mmc comes up, add the local computer policy snap-in (see ‘file’). Then just change:
[Console Root\Local Computer Policy\Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options] "User Account Control:Run all administrators in Admin Approval Mode” from enabled to disabled.

good luck

Hey. Thanks Joke that sounds like what I am wanting to do. When I rum MMC and try to add a snap in there is not one in the list named local computer policy. I tried expanding a couple others that I thought could be what I was looking for, but neither opened up into sub directories like you mention. Am I missing something?

The actual snap-in is 'Group Policy Object Editor' and it should come up asking if you want to edit the 'local computer'.

Do yourself a favor when screwing around with mmc if it's new for you... create a manual restore point first.

good luck
