Disk formatting basics

Anyone out there have a tip on a decent resource on formatting hard drives? Specifically, I am trying to set up two 45GB IBM's to operate in a RAID1 mode for a simple home PC application but I know little to nothing about this including no real decent documentation on DOS commands to do it with.

use a win 98 boot diske that has fdisk, follow the directions about deleting drives and creating drives also set the active partition. then use the format command
a: format c: /s the /s makes this bootable than fdisk other drive and format without /s use your array controller rom setup to get your raid level 1
