I just built my computer with an r9 380x. I have connected my 1080p monitor to the HDMI on the graphics card. I also have got an old square monitor which is VGA. I tried plugging the VGA cable into the Motherboard for a second monitor but it isn't detecting anything. Can you not connect these types at the same time?

Solution
Often times, when the motherboard detects a discrete graphics card installed in the PCI-Ex16 slot, it will automatically disable the on-board graphics. There may be an option in BIOS which would allow you to re-enable it, but an easier solution would probably be to just use the DVI-I port of your graphics card (assuming it has one) and a DVI-I to VGA adapter for your second monitor.
