i recently got a 2080ti which the hdmi port doesnt wokr on. fine. i will just use display port. i buy some display port cable bring em home and attempt to plug them in to my gpu (recntly went from 3gb 1060 to a 6gb 1660 super so i had never tried display port before hdmi was just simpler and tbh.... i didnt even know it existed. lul. anywho i had a dell 27 inch generic monitor 143.99 hz and that was the first one i tried to plug in to the 1660. no dice i changed the input to display port and nada... although, when i plug both the hdmi cable and the display port into the gpu it will give visual (assuming via hdmi) but the desktop background it frozen no mouse pointer i can still use the taskbar no problem but i thought what gives? its my monitor i got it back in '21 time for an upgrade. went got a 1440p monitor 27" acer so now i have two 27 inch 144.99 hz monitors set up side by side and ngl i do notice a signifigant jump in performance since swappin my res on my main monitor its wild. idk if its at all related it doubt it but its interesting.

i digress so the display ports this new acer ,onito i plug the DP in today unplugged everything else from the gpu and the monitor detected that display port was engaged and occupied yet no signal ever appeared instead swapping the roel of "main display" to my now second screen.

i dont understand fellas any tips would be much kind

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

When posting a thread of troubleshooting nature, it's customary to include your full system's specs. Please list the specs to your build like so:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
include the age of the PSU apart from it's make and model. BIOS version for your motherboard at this moment of time.

You mentioned having a GTX 1060 and 1660 Super prior, did you use DDU to remove all GPU drivers(intel, AMD and Nvidia) in Safe Mode, prior to removing the GPU and swapping in the RTX2080Ti? Manually installing the latest GPU driver sourced from Nvidia's support site in an elevated command, i.e, Right click installer>Run as Administrator?
