So recently i got a new monitor which is msi g244f e2 180hz , it comes with hdmi cable tho , the question is most of the people said that u should get a display port as hdmi doesnt give the frame rate u want or full frame rate , like i have hdmi even tho on screen it gives me 144 or 150 fps , so basically im not getting the fps on the monitor it self? Correct me if im wrong , even tho on the hdmi , feels still pretty smooth , hope u guys can help me understand more
Thanks in advance

Spec :

I7 9700k
Rtx 2060
16gb of ram
Win 10
Coolermaster aio

Phew thanks for that , i was just wondering also , freesync wont work on hdmi? So basically it only works on display cable , also is freesync ( adaptive sync ) a big thing or imporovements

Page 24, basically everything is supported with both interfaces. What you described in post 1 usually is when you hit higher resolutions. For example, certain (all?) monitors can't do free/gsync above certain resolutions and frame rates unless you go DisplayPort.

TLDR; You're in the clear

Thank u so much for ur details and reply , i have just a few question or even a question just to be more convinced , so like 80% of people or atleast what i see that they just always say use dp because u might not getting the 180hz u want , even if you are getting 180 fps ...in any way dp is always better for monitors hdmi for tv and dp for color is better than hdmi etc

2 : also freesync is only supported using dp not hdmi , but searching on the internet and youtube i couldnt really get a 100% answer for it , what did it actually do ? As if i wanted to know if it will give me the best experience with freesync on and stuff

With this monitor atleast , and sorry for the questions i just like to learn more about freesync or dp cuz im pretty new , thank u so much anyway

At 1080 you aren't using HDMIs bandwidth up. The exception and why many might say to use DP and id be inclined to agree is HDMI cables are not all created equal. There's 2.0, 2.0b, 2.1 (which now includes 2.0, idiot HDMI organization), and length limitations to further complicate it.
To the point of you "might be getting 180 but not" is misleading but valid. You could be getting 180hz with no issues or with intermittent issues, or you might not even notice issues if there are any. It's a preventive weed it out before it's an issue solution.

Free-Sync should always be on. It eliminates tearing and stutters whenever there is an FPS dip, basically real time compensation. G-Sync is Nvidias's proprietary FreeSync. Oversimplification; Think of it in HDR how DollyVision sits on top of HDR. All DV is HDR but but all HDR is DV. Same goes for Nvidia, all G-Sync is FreeSync compatible not the other way around (however some are G-Sync certified vs compatible, different rabbithole).
FreeSync is compatible with your monitor, I did find it odd the manual didn't mention if HDMI and DP and would carry but assume it's both? Not sure if that first bit above was you asking or saying what your research turned up.
Either way FreeSync 100% on.

We are all new somewhere in life so ask away. Can't guarantee I'll be able to answer it all but in life it's always better to ask even if it possibly makes you look silly or annoying than to assume and be wrong (and depending on the topic, irreparably destroy the subject in question).
