DIY DVR Minimum Specs

Hi,

I'm hoping to repurpose one of my old PCs as a DVR for basic cable. Here are the specs...can they do the job?

Intel 2.4 GHZ
1 GB Ram
200GB Hard Drive
Windows XP

AMD Athlon XP 1800+
2.10 GHZ
1GB of RAM
200 GB of Hard Drive space
Running Windows XP

What do you think?

Any advice on a Tv Tuner card if I have basic cable. Currently looking at the Hauppauge 1199 WinTV HVR-1600 Internal PCI Dual TV Tuner/Video Recorder with IR Receiver and Blaster

Well the one you'r considering doesn't record in 1080p. It does 1080i, which is not true HD. You might not notice a difference except on large displays.

BTW, I don't think you could use your AMD build for the card, since its speed is 2.1 Ghz, & the min req for the tv tuner card is 2.4 Ghz
