Do I have any hope to back up this data?

Hi,

I'm looking for a solution to this problem: I have an ASUS Google Nexus 7 which I mishandled and broke the screen + digitiser to the point where there is absolutely no touch response - The screen however IS still visible. This happened several months ago. I've been searching for ways to retrieve the data on the tablet, but all to no avail.

Here's the case:
-The USB port is fine;
-The tablet is not rooted and never has been;
-USB debugging is not on;
-The tablet is on PTP, not MTP;
-I do have the device driver installed on my PC;

Is there any hope of getting back what was left on the tablet, or will I have to purchase a new digitiser and screen + bezel? I know how it all goes together so it wouldn't be a problem if I had to get a replace, but I would prefer to do it cost-free if possible.

If anyone can help me out here, it'll be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

If everything is still working besides the digitizer, you may be able to connect a USB keyboard and/or mouse to the tablet to be able to navigate around the OS. You will need something like this: http://www.amazon.com/LIFETIME-WARRANTY-Electronics-Micro-Cable/dp/B005GGBYJ4 at which point you can connect a mouse or keyboard, or even a USB hub to allow you to connect multiple devices. Once you plug in a mouse, you should get a cursor on the screen. Check out http://www.howtogeek.com/164783/how-to-connect-mice-keyboards-and-gamepads-to-an-android-phone-or-tablet/

Yeah as far as I'm aware. I just need to connect it all back up because at the minute the screen isn't attached to the mainboard. I'll be honest, I had considered going for the USB OTG option, but I wasn't 100% sure whether the old-gen Nexus 7 supported it, or you needed root access to use it.

Will this allow me to put the tablet into MTP mode through dev. settings and make all the media items retrievable via USB to my PC?
