Presumably, based on the chipset listed, you might have need to update BIOS for the 9xxx. I further assume, because I didn't check, that the chipset listed is going to be native to the 7xxx series. edit- verified that you will need a BIOS update to run the 9700.

Does the motherboard have a BIOS flash function separate of having the CPU installed?

IMO, for the uninitiated, this is a great way to brick a new motherboard.

IMO if you are going to spend that on a PSU, get something like the Corsair RM750x.
