Does normal desktop motherboard support speedstep technology

I got an 478 P4 mobile cpu (2.2G). I put it on my 875P desktop motherboard. But it seems to be running only at 1.2 Ghz. My question is: does the normal 875P chipset support speedstep technology, i.e. the cpu can be running at different speeds?

Thanks,

This seems to answer your question;

The problem I found is that Intel have incorporated something called Speedstep into the mobile P4's - this causes the mobo to run them at the default multipier - x12. This means that irrespective of the "actual" speed of the chip - it will ONLY do 1.2GHz . This is not the case oddly enough for the mobile Celerons though, they will run at their rated speed.

However! Not all is lost, because they can be overclocked like crazy. The
three mobile processors could all do FSB's of 800MHz - a 100% overclock. But
it's still quite a lot of bother to go to just for 2.4GHz @ 800MHz FSB

Hey, and this is from Intel;

†† Please note that the Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor - M for Embedded Computing at 1.7 GHz and 2.2 GHz are the same products as the Mobile Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor - M at 1.7/1.2 GHz and 2.2/1.2 GHz respectively. Because the Embedded Intel Architecture Group does not support Intel Speedstep® Technology for the Intel® Pentium® 4 Processors - M, additional design guidelines must be followed to operate the processors at the 1.7 GHz or 2.2 GHz speeds.

Intel Pentium 4 Processor-M: Available at 1.7 GHz and 2.2 GHz with a 400 MHz processor side bus delivering 3.2 GB of data per second into and out of the processor
they claim what appears to be your chip are compatibale with 845E chipset; Or you tweak it!!!
