I guess I would have to see benchmarks on games that I actually play. I don't make my purchasing decisions based off a sticker on box.

Well if you assume the 5670 is just a little bit slower in dx9 games, but faster in dx9 games with dx11 features, and obviously is dx11 capable...what are you gonna buy?

People will be buying graphics cards because they always do. If you forget all about full dx11 games for a year, you'll probably still come to the conclusion that buying a dx11 card now makes more sense.

Crytek could be working on dx11 tesselation and muti-threading for Crysis right now. What that would mean is, even the lowest end dx11 cards (in vista/7) could end up outperforming some of the top end dx10 cards (in xp).

All of the big software companies will be looking at ways to improve their current games in dx11. This is the easiest way for them to learn the dx11 API, and it will show real results that people can use to justify buying dx11 in preference to older cards.

I just can't believe that anyone who would be thinking of buying a graphics card would even consider anything except a dx11 card. Anyone who does is going to end up very dissappointed pretty soon.

I should remind everyone that they should take everything they read on that site with a pinc...........fist full of salt, it's posted by Theo Valich which probably means he got bored one evening and pulled something out of his ass based little more then third hand hearsay.

I should remind everyone Theo Valich once worked for Toms Hardware, he most likely got fired. The guy is an idiot.

Crytek are focusing on the consoles, crysis 2 is going to be technially less advanced than crysis.

If they wanted to I'm sure they could remake crysis in dx11 without any issues. I don't know if they are or not obviously, it was just an example of what a lot of games companies might be, and probably are doing right now.

If I were head of Crytek and thinking of ways to make easy cash, my first thought would be 'Crysis Dx11 facelift'. With negligable overheads and a huge title...it's something that people who have dx11 would want if only to show it off.

PS3 and DX? It needs its own special soecial coding, if you will anyways, and its harder to do.XBox is of course very DX friendly, tho it is DX9 only.
Both of these options, we know will die in two years, period. Theres a window here, starting now, as to which direction gaming houses have to make a decision, while some already have.
True, the DX11 path is brand new, the DX10 path is 2 years old, and with the consoles current versions seen as coming to an end point, 2 gens of DX in the bank, 2 gens of HW in the bank, 2 OS' in the bank, its time.
We could argue exactly when the tipping point of all this will be til the cows come home, we could use overall usage of OS, game numbers from steam etc, but, all those numbers mean little at this point, as, unless somethings slipped by us all here, W7 isnt officially out, and all those preorders, and it just being on the shelf hasnt made its impact.

You can be assured there are bean counters who know how alot of this will transpire,
and how much this is going to shift in the next 6 months, and my guess is, xp is definately on the way out, as much as those numbers show today as it being pertinent now, itll be seen as fading in 6 months.

OK, six months, lets assume nVidia too will have its DX11 cards by then, and ATI will have its x2 killer top winner takes all variant out then as well, at that point, we can revisit this conversation, and then say whether xp is relevent or not, my monies on not.

Six months isnt that far away, and those gaming houses hopefully have already made their decisions by now, or theyre going to be caught with their pants down. XP has fired its last salvo, and possibly it may have still hit its target, but its barrels are empty, and people are ready for a change.

It kills me to see some people argue here that they need the top card, or Intel cpu, or i7, yet their OS isnt so important? Shouldnt we all know the benefits of Vista and especially W7 when it comes to MT? And how this is going to effect apps, games and our HW?
This current scenario may be more important than people realise, as directions could drastically shift. Alot of the head devs want out of the DX path, alot dont, but its our money thatll ultimately decide that. If that future shifts too fast, so will our options

Described by Amazon.co.uk as "undoubtedly the biggest software release for many years", yesterday's pre-orders for Windows 7 have been more popular than a set of loving parents at a bankrupt orphanage.

Within a matter of hours yesterday, Amazon's pre-orders appeared to have sold out entirely. DSGi, which owns PC World, Currys and Dixons.co.uk, later announced that Windows 7 "has become the fastest-selling software operating system package" for the company.

In fact, DSGi went a step further, announcing that during the first 12 hours of availability, the number of orders placed for Windows 7 exceeded 25 per cent of the number of Windows Vista sales during the last year.

Dunno about anywhere else but in the UK, people are buying Windows 7.

Also sold out in Japan as well.
This isnt new news, dont know why people think things wont change. The demographics will be extremely different 6 months from now, and people will be asking, wheres all the DX11 games?
I understand the dev time etc, but to add things like OS and consoles this late in the game doesnt make sense any longer.
This isnt Vista, its not then, and its time to move along. Weve had 2 years of consoles since then, and theyre supposed to last another 2?
I just have a gut feeling, soon xp will be sooo yesterday, cant really say why, but things change
