Hey all,

I have two pc's on a generic Cable/Router/Lan setup. I have a copy of D3
loaded on both with updates. It is the same copy of D3 installed on each of
the pc's. I wanted to know if it is possible to play a co-op game. IOW,
instead of just me going through the game, there would be 2 of us. Can this
be done? Or possibly just a deathmatch type game. I can understand that
given I have only the one copy that I might not be able to. But If I had
two seperate copies?

I see ads online advertising the expansion pack and read they will have CTF.
Im not sure of its release date but do like the fact that it seems to lean
more towards multiplaying. Thats the part Im most interested in, not single
player.

What are the possibities?

Thanks group,

SL

Assuming the Co-op mod you are using supports LAN games, it should work
like a dream. Just boot up D3Reborn or your favorite Co-op mod and host
the server, then join and have your friend join (D3Reborn has to have a
dedicated server...)

Deathmatch works perfectly. Although the LANs I attend hold no
competition, given that nobody really has the game and just plays off of
my copy =)

I know exactly when it's going to be released.

"When it's done"

I don't think it's leaning towards multiplayer at all. The single
player missions in the expansion pack will stack up to roughly half the
length of the original game.

CTF sounds like a lot of fun. Wonder what the original maps are going
to play like if they will support 8 players. New 8-player support
(read: properly coded and optomized 8-player support...) will be a relief.

Possibilities are endless as is.

With the Doom3 SDK out, you can do whatever the hell you want with Doom3
Multiplayer (read: CrateDM)

Thanks Snoop,
Your post was quite informative. I do understand the "my copy" part. I
have made 3 "my copies" as well. It did take a lot of coasters first :) I
do intend to play with two seperate copies for the lan though. The price
has fallen to a decent purchase price enough to justify a lan game.

Anyways, I do not have experience with "any" mods to D3. I have not tweaked
really any sort of game since Quake 3 or C&C Zero Hour. And those were
quite easy and straightforward. What links might you have to let me try the
D3Reborn? Im sure I could google, but any help is appreciated. Just add my
usual 15% to the tip :)

thanks again,
sl

I get most of my Doom3 News from http://www.d3files.com

I also have http://www.planetdoom.com bookmarked just in case the
D3files crew misses something (unlikely, everybody hates planetdoom
because of fileplanet. D3files = free DLs without signing up)

Here is the link to the latest alpha (.3) of Doom3Reborn:

http://doom3.filefront.com/file/DOOM_3_Reborn;36808

Note that this is a pretty unstable mod and the bugs are still being
banged out. I tried to run a game over the LAN, and I could
successfully connect, but couldn't actually join and play (it was a bit
tweaky)

If you don't know how to install the mod, it's pretty straightforward.
Just create a folder inside your \Doom3\ directory, name it anything you
want, but try to keep it relavent (ie. name it "D3Reborn" for the
d3reborn mod. if no description.txt is included in the folder, the name
of the folder is the name of the mod on the mods menu in Doom3...any
text in the description.txt is what the mod's name will be (you can
color the name this way) no matter what the folder name is)

Extract all the data into that folder (you want your .pk4 files to be
inside the \Doom 3\D3Reborn folder, and any other folders nested under
D3Reborn) using your favorite archive program.

Some mod devs tell you to extract the .pk4 files or even folders (eep!)
into your \Doom 3\Base directory, *do not* do this, it can screw with
your vanilla Doom3, and is far more inconvienient.

Follow the .txt included with the mod if my directions are vague
(especially about starting a D3Reborn server, I don't have the newest
alpha) and you should be on the roll.

Oh, and I take Mastercard :) lol.

OK Snoop, give us a break will ya? My ISP server don't keep even d
group messages that long. I stop in once or twice a week to catch up.
So me and Margolis both missed your post it seems. Mind posting what
the mod(s) is/are and where again? I'm actually off this weekend so
will be able to keep up :)
Thanks,
McG.
