Finally getting around to posting my second win, which was awhile ago.
Most noteworthy part is that supplies were good, although one item
especially seemed plentiful. Pretty much waiting for new version, now,
and playing other games.

:--------------------------------------------------------------
: DoomRL (v.0.9.6 (beta)) roguelike post-mortem character dump
:--------------------------------------------------------------

: Lucky, level 6 soldier, defeated the Cyberdeamon
: on level 20 of the Phobos base.
: He survived 86793 turns and scored 27535 points.
: He found the Phobos Arena.
: He ventured into the Halls of Carnage.
: He fought on Hell's Arena.
: He invaded Spider's lair.

Spider's Lair is the only new level I seem to find. Oh, well.

:-- Statistics ------------------------------------------------
:
: Health 49/50 Experience 21400/6
: ToHit +0 ToDmg Ranged +3 ToDmg Melee +3

Looking good. This time I was prepared when I met ol' Cyber.

:-- Traits ----------------------------------------------------
:
: Tough as nails (Level 3)
: Son of a bitch (Level 3)

Seen these before.

:-- Equipment -------------------------------------------------
:
: [a] [ Armor ] red armor [1/4] (18%)
: [ Weapon ] BFG 9000 (8d8) [4/100]
: [c] [ Boots ] plasteel boots [8/8] (96%)

Had plenty of BFG shots; don't waste anything on those useless plasma
rifles. Armor was the hardest thing to keep in stock and had
relatively few problems there this time.

:-- Inventory -------------------------------------------------
:
: [a] blue armor [2/2] (90%)
: double shotgun (4d4)x2 [2/2]
: [c] chaingun (1d6)x5 [50/50]
: [d] BFG 9000 (8d8) [100/100]
: [e] assault shotgun (4d4) [4/4]
: [f] 10mm ammo (x100)
: [g] 10mm ammo (x100)
: [h] shotgun shell (x48)
: large med-pack
: [j] phase device
: [k] thermonuclear bomb
: [l] large med-pack
: [m] large med-pack
: [n] thermonuclear bomb
: [o] thermonuclear bomb

Shotgunned my way through most levels, but did get some use from the
chaingun (good for setting off barrels or for shooting monsters when
you don't want to set off nearby barrels). Used double and assault
shotgun both, taking advantage of cover to step back and reload double
when possible, taking advantage of switching to loaded assault when no
cover. I left at least one nuke on the floor; found enough to make a
fortune on the black market if I ever get home. :) Never found an
Invulnerability afterwards, so didn't get any use out of them, though.

:-- Kills -----------------------------------------------------
:
: 25 former humans
: 37 former human sergeants
: 18 former human captains
: 24 imps
: 34 demons
: 26 lost souls
: 18 cacodemons
: 13 barons of hell
: 1 Cyberdemon
: 13 hell knights
: 15 arachnotrons

Plenty bloodshed, although not such a big kill count for a roguelike.

The next version could be out even tomorrow, except fo the fact that I'm
still trying to stabilize the linux version -- and that is a lot more
troublesome. The lunux version could take even two weeks more.

Wierd. Never saw City of Skulls?

The balance issue of these will be broken next version ;-).

No special weapons?

Kheh, true ;-). The good'ol shotgun will see a lot of modifications the next
release. I reduced the damage it does, so beyond 7-8 squares it's practicaly
useless. But I've upped it's damage to 6d3 and introduced the pump-action
combat shotgun.

Gooood. That was how they were intended to be used.

:-D. If you ever do *evil grin*!

Hmm ;-).

Ah... isn't 6d3 plus reloading going to compare unfavourably with the
chaingun's 6d5 and reloading only every now and then? I dunno how to-hit
chances inform that, of course.

I think there were a few pistols. With my shotguns, I didn't need any
specials, though.

C'mon, what's the big secret about the nukes? You can tell me,
nobody's reading this thread anyway.

1) chaingun can miss so on average it's 5d5 or less (lets say average 13)
2) it's 6d5-10 (avg, 8) vs. 6d3-2 (10) against a moderately armoured enemy
3) shotgun has guaranteed area effect

And how many games did you play that went down to about 15th level?

I bet you're wrong ;-)
