drive mapping problem

I have two computers on a home network with a Linksys router. One is a
desktop running Win XP SP-1, the second is a laptop also running Win
XP(SP-2). Both computers can access the web, get and send mail and so
on.

Within MyNetwork Places both computers "see" each other. I have set up
some shared files on each computer. I can use the desktop to map a
folder on the laptop with no problems but I can't get it to work the
other way. When I try to map one of the shared folders on my desktop
to the laptop I get the following error:

"The mapped network drive could not be created because of the
following error occured:
Not enough server storage is available to process this command."

I get the same type error if I use Explorer to try to "see" the
contents of a shared folder on the desktop. I can see the shared
folder by name but if I try to open it the error comes up. Going the
other way, i.e. from the desktop computer to the laptop works fine as
I can see the shared folders on the laptop and open them, etc.

The message makes no sense to me since both systems have several
gigabytes of free space.

Suggestions?

This condition is usually fixed by applying the latest service pack.
Sometimes
it is caused by NAV or IBM AV:
