Imagine 2x dual core cpu's with SLI in a SFF water cooled case.

ok, shock and dismay has passed now.

on a similar line as my earlier question, how much will this setup actually effect gameplay? is it a case that it will spread the workload "all those processors..." <wanders off into dreamland momentarily> or will it simply allow allow you to play HL2 whilst also running you favourite playlist and prime95 in the background without any loss in gameplay?

Basically this unit with 2x next-gen nvidia's in SLI or 2x ATI's next in their checkerboard rendering thing is what we'll need to play games based on the unreal3 engine. Only thing that sucks is that there's no room for a PPU.

The TYAN Thunder has 8 slots, but the other board that K8man showed only has 2.

Wow, I can't believe I had to edit this post to say "2" DIMM slots. That's crazy... I said 4 just because I knew that nobody would be crazy enough to make a board with that much CPU capacity but that little RAM capacity...

why do you guys always have to bumm my trip by bringing "facts" into the equation??
There's no heat to deal with in an idea. I can't even finish convincing myself this could be cool before you guys bring up the buzz kill. (was a nice thought anyway)

What about games? Don't they have to be coded to take advantage of dual cpus, and of course sli.

For a lot of apps, even workstation apps, 4 GB is enough. If its not, you're not likely interested in such an ultra small system in the first place.

What concerns me more is the memory bandwith. It seems to be a single channel, shared by 4 cores.. thats not good. Although again, rendering type of workloads might not care much, if at all. Its a niche product, clearly, but where it fits the bill, its an awesome little box IMHO. Just don't compare it to superdomes :D
