Not been following some stuff for a bit, but now I see some sites listing some memory as Dual Channel DDR. Now, is this just a marketing thing, because I don't seem to find this memory on the sites I usually use, ie newegg.com and mwave.com. Just seems kinda redundant to me, since I though DDR stood for Double Data Rate. But if it uses dual channel.... anyways, confused. One of my friends said its dual channel when you stick two of the same sticks in. Anyways, any help, thanks.

its pretty much raid 0 for memory...

You have 2 - 6 memory modules each controlled by a seperate memory controllor effectivly making the 128bit ddr bus able to transfer 256bits per clock cycle because the 2 memory controllors are staggaring in their communication with the chipset meaning the chipset is able to send packets of data 2x more than it would normally. You DO NOT need special memory to run dual channel. However they do sell mached memory modules (sham IMO) however the matched sticks have gone down in price so sometimes they cost the same as high end unmached sticks...you may take either route.

Things you need to know to run dual channel...

You must be using a mobo or chipset that supports dual channel (nforce2, i865 and i875)

You must use 2, 4 or 6 memory modules of the same size and model

You may use 2 memory modules 1/2 the size of the third module and run the 2 small modules off of 1 memory controllor and the large module off of the second memory controllor.

If it isn't a P6 then it isn't a procesor

Read the first half-page of the article I wrote <A HREF="http://www.sysopt.com/reviews/Corsair_TwinX1024-4000Pro/index.html" target="_new">Here</A>, it explains Dual Channel and the reasons why.
