With Dual core and possible Quad core and more cpu's on the horizon, isn't there going to be need for faster hardware such as optical drives and namely hard drives? What good is an eight core cpu with a theoretical speed of 8ghz or more if it cant access data fast enough to utilize it properly. Is there a possibilty that we might start moving to solid-state hard drives? Has anyone ever used one and are they that much faster? Or might we just see RAID array's as the solution from most pc manufacturers?

You'll probably end up with greater system memory to cach the data, real high speed mass storage may never keep pace with CPU and RAM Mhz..

in terms of amount of data, then yer, multiple drive solutions may become more prevelent, Hell I bet most people have more than one hard drive now anyway.

Three cores? Isn't that somewhat of a waste of adressing bits?...

You need two bits to adress any single core in a 3 or 4 core CPU... It's just that 3 cores (or 3 processors) is very unsusual, because it's not a power of two...

...but what the hell, why not, eh?...

I can see this type of chip in console systems like a new type of xbox. That will elliminate those boot times pretty much.
