Dual graphics cards cause instability?

I have a custom built PC, running windows 10, with two graphics cards. One is an AMD Radeon R7 240, which I had at first, and that I use for my utility monitor, and an Nvidia Geforce GTX 950 FTW that I recently got, which my better monitor is hooked up to for gaming and media streaming or whatever. The only reason I have the Radeon in is for my utility monitor and to maybe add a little bit of power to my pc. Is this ok? I've experience a lot of full out PC crashes, to the point where not even the reset button words, I must hold down power for like 10 secs. When I recently removed my radeon, which is the only card compatible with my utility monitor, it stopped. Is there a way that I can fix it while running both?

Solution
Yes. It is unstable when you do Multi-brand. To do Dual Graphics cards you need both cards to be usable by the same Drivers. For example a Titan X with a GTX 1080 or a Gtx 1080 with a 1070.
However if there is many many release date of the product differences you will suffer problems as well.
There is no way to fix this if you are planning to run BOTH. The only reasonable fix is to sell one of the cards and purchase another identical or similar card to what you are aiming at.
