Question Dual Monitors Causing PC to Not Display Upon Boot Up

I got a new monitor for a dual display on my PC. My PC graphics card has 1 HMDI plug and 1 Display port plug. Old monitor was plugged in via HDMI previously. New monitor did not come with a display port, so I had to switch my new monitor to the HDMI connection and my old monitor to the display port connection.

When I attempt to boot the PC, both monitors display "no connection". When I unplug either of the monitors, the monitor that remains plugged in works on boot up. Once the computer is displaying on that monitor, I can plug the other monitor back into the other port and it shows up and the PC works just fine with both monitors once booted.

What would be causing the display issues on boot up if both ports are working normally once the PC is booted?

I am not sufficient in PC technology, my husband built the PC but is unsure how to fix the issue either. I've just been unplugging the HDMI connection to boot the PC, but I don't want to wear out the port continuing to do this every time I want to use the PC.
Any help is appreciated! Thanks.

Computer Specs:
- Windows 10 Pro 22H2
- Intel i7-9700K 3.6 GHz
- 32 GB Ram
- NVIDIA GEforce RTX 2060

1. Power off system.
2. Disconnect the display port monitor
3. Connect new hdmi monitor
4. Power on PC
5. If new monitor works ok on its own, power off pc.
6. Plug in display port monitor and leave the hdmi one plugged in too.
7. Power on pc and see if both are picked up by the pc.

If they are, then you can go into display settings and select the primary monitor.

If it didn't work, then repeat the steps above but reverse the order of the monitors.

Another, option if not succesful is to boot pc with no monitors. Plug one in while running, log in then plug the other one, then reverse order if unsuccesful.
