i have 2 monitors with single vga output but my vga GPU (gigabyte gtx 550 ti oc), only have 2 dvi and 1 mini hdmi port. so i decided to buy 2 piece of vga to dvi converter and connect them all together. but when i power up the computer the display only showed up on one monitor and can't even detect in nvidia control panel or display settings.

Now my question is can dual dvi ports be used with 2 different monitors (each monitor one dvi)? or should i buy mini hdmi to vga?

any help would be really appreciate it thanks!

Solution
Yes - you should be able to use different video cables and monitors for dual monitor use.

Make and model monitors?

First focus on getting just one monitor working.

The video connection path being (as I understand your post):

GPU GTX 550 [DVI Port] ----DVI cable -----> DVI/VGA adapter ----->[VGA port] Monitor

Then try to get the second monitor to work just by itself using its cables and adapters.

If the second monitor will not work, then switch the cables and use the cables that worked for the first monitor.

The objective is to narrow down to perhaps a specific port, cable, or adapter being at fault.

Mark the cables and adapters to be...

Mark the cables and adapters to be able to individually identify them and keep track of how you swap the cables and adapters in and out.

Change only one thing at a time.

Hopefully the problem is simply a faulty cable or adapter.

Thanks for the reply! I've solved this problem by simply just disabling display driver in device manager and re-enable it and it is worked now! Thanks again
