Might sound like a dumb question...but, I have a packard bell and have
found the power supply to be a nightmare. (the pc is about 3 yrs which
i'm told is the problem)

Can i rebuild with a different power supply, and even into a new case
with all the other bits i have?? or do i need to start from scratch.
I ask about the new case, as i'm in desperate need of more drive space
(cd/dvd etc)

Well, technically yes. The only hard part will be moving the PC to the new
case and reconnecting the power supply. Just make sure your new power supply
will fit in the case, and you know what connections you need for it. Its a
tough job when its built and it won't work and its hard to find the problem.
If you like challenges or have done this before go ahead. But on the safe
side, have a geek around to help.

There are no dumb questions, just dumb answers. Some wise old guy said that.
I hope I'm not contradicting my self.

In news:Rachel.1s6npr@pcbanter.net,
Rachel <Rachel.1s6npr@pcbanter.net> had this to say:

My reply is at the bottom of your sent message:

The easiest thing in your situation to do would be to take your computer and
remove the hard drive. From there you'll put it into a new PC as a slave.
You'll then use a clone application to completely copy it to the new
computer. You'd then do a "repair installation" of windows XP which would
then set your install to use the new hardware. It's the best idea unless
your copy of XP is OEM because in some cases you'd have to buy a new copy of
XP because your copy will be restricted to that computer specifically. An
idea would be to just get a slave hard drive and add it to the system and to
replace the power supply - a process that takes all of a half hour if you go
slowly.

Go to your local bookstore and buy a book on building PC's,
such as:
"How to Build Your Own PC: Save a Buck and Learn a Lot"
by Charlie Palmer. (Note: you may not save a buck, but you
will learn a lot.)

Malke,
They asked so I said yes, I would moderate this board;
'msusenet' (http://www.msusenet.com)
And before some MVP starts pissing in the wind about "using a proper
newsgroup reader," what's the difference between your own;
'Technet' (http://tinyurl.com/bxfzx) web based "discussion groups," and
this one?

And as for the post by Mike Hall;
"There is reference to the title in a book called '1001 ways to gain
self
importance'.. 🙂"

I myself, have never hammered on an MVP for a stupid post, or for being
part of an elitist group.

While your at it Mike, look at the definition of Snob;
One who tends to rebuff, avoid, or ignore those regarded as inferior,
one who has an offensive air of superiority in matters of knowledge or
taste.
Best,
Treeman

(snip)

And does that mean you also delete posts coming from Usenet with which
you disagree? That would create a censorship that is not native to
Usenet.

I can't imagine how you could interpret what I wrote as being
"threatened" by people getting information from sources other than
Usenet. Why would I care where else people get their information? The
only thing I care about is that people *are* able to get information,
completely and with full disclosure from the source from which they are
getting it.

Nope, it just means that if your happy with the raw feeds from a
non-monitored web based newsreader, fine. As with any monitored log-on
web based portal, the only posts deleted are from flamers, spammers,
and posts with extreme sexual content. If it's deleted here, it doesn't
effect what you see where you are.
I know you are busy helping out as many people as you can, just from
reading your posts. I assume you look at my posts as well. Have you
ever seen a post by me that is not along the same path?
I want to take the high road here, and agree to disagree.
I hope you will do the same.
Best,
Treeman

Thanks for the graceful post, and thanks for clearing up what you
moderate. I do look at your posts and respect your abilities and the
quality of your tech support. That is never what this thread was about.
I'm happy to agree to disagree.

Best regards,
