I've seen a duron 800Mhz beat a P3 933 easily

yea, well remember, the celeron was made to compete with the K6 2s and it whupped the PII for awhile...
The Duron matches the PIII clock for clock in my experience, although I'm sure at higher clock speeds the L2 makes a difference, @ 700 they were about the same.

Honestly, the only place you will probably notice any difference at all is in the extra weight of your wallet if you go with the Duron.

Humans can't tell the difference between 80FPS and 75FPS in any game. Plus, even the lowly Celeron is waiting for the human to tell it what to do in most Windows applications.

Check out my rig:

You won't notice any difference in performance probably, duron is (overall) only slightly slower than P3. There are apps where Duron 700 kicks 1Ghz P3 and P3 is also way faster than Duron in some places. Celeron, even thought it should be duron's competitior, gets butt kicked really badly. You need about 1Ghz Celeron just to touch the performance of 700Mhz Duron...
