Can anyone tell me why some DVD's will play in my DVD
drive and others won't.It's as if the drive can't read
them.What's the problem.
Thanks
Vince

Yes.It seems that all newer DVD's(within the last year)
cannot be read by my DVD drive.Everything older than that
plays perfectly.BTW I am using Power DVD.If I go into
event viewer it tells me the device (DVD drive) times out
trying to read the data.A few times my DVD drive has even
disappeared from device manager and I had to reboot for it
to show up again.Very Strange!

This sounds like a hardware problem. One of two things...

1. The laser and/or tracking mechanism is dirty an needs cleaning.

2. the laser unit is out of calibration.

Does it have problems with only dual layer discs, or is it with both single-
and dual layer?
