Dying Light constant stuttering

I completely understand the frustration that goes into dealing with this issue. I have the same issue as a couple of people that have posted, but it's just a little different from the op's issue in that enabling or disabling cores has no affect on the time between stuttering. Like others have said, my stuttering is every second on the dot and it starts as soon as the main menu comes up. You could set a damn clock to it. It makes the game impossible to play.

My setup:

i7 4770k @ stock and OC'd to 4.6
Asus Maximus VI Formula
8GB 2133 MHz
R9 290 - most recent drivers
Game is installed on a Samsung 840 EVO 250GB with about 100GB available

Wife's setup:

i5 3570k
MSI Z77A-G45
8GB 1600 MHz
GTX 760 Hawk Edition - most recent drivers
Game installed on a WD 1TB 7200 RPM HDD

I get the stuttering on my setup. With all the Nvidia crap turned off, everything on medium and draw distance at 50%, I average about 40 FPS on my wife's with none of the other crap issues like crashing, micro stuttering or FPS drops. I understand why people are getting frustrated when someone suggests some kind of tweak or setting to change that will improve FPS ie. removing film grain or lowering resolution. It's difficult to really understand the issue we're having when you can't see it right in front of you. It would seem logical to me that something in the game is broken. Whether it's coding or some kind of driver compatibility issue, I don't know. On the flipside, I've seen youtube videos that seemed to be running dying light without issue on a 4770k and R9 290 which leads me to believe something is wrong on my end. I have absolutely no idea what the issue is but I hope we get some results soon because this is the worst experience I've ever had with a new game.

What operating system are you using?

You're welcome ! Your MOBO+CPU isn't obsolete because you are still able to play some new AAA games with it...

PorkFriedRastafarian is still having problems with 4770k and a ROG motherboard however he is using a AMD video card.

I suggest you try another gtx 970 if possible to make sure there is nothing wrong with the video card...

Could be the culprit, many people using Windows 7 are having some issue's...

"The OP is also using windows 7 "

I play the game with 3 friends, everybody is using windows 8.1 & the game is generally smooth for all of us.

Well i have to say i had my doubts about windows 8.1, but i gave it a chance and formated (again).
So yeah, my problem is solved.

NO STUTTERING AT ALL.
Thanks a lot !!!

PS*
Still i can't get why most of windows 7 users run this game fine (my Q6600 friend is on windows 7 for example)...

Well that's a damn kick in the head. I have to give this a shot asap. Glad it worked out for you man. Thanks for the ideas mr91.

Thanks man! Well, it's amazing how a 7 years old CPU performs so well in latest AAA games..
I have 40-50 fps, however i am stuck at 30 with vsync on (can't stand this massive tearing and adaptive doesn't help either).
Gameplay is butter smooth though, stuttering is long gone!!

Good luck to you too!

You're Welcome, Good Luck!

Seems like the issue is solved for the OP and others reading the thread...

I have the same issue with this game. Yes it was first on a cracked version, I always download from torrents to test 1/3 of the game if I would like it. If I do I buy it. I thought it was the problem from the cracked version... aaaaaaaaaaand ok I can make an exception because I already knew that I will enjoy this game. So I bought the original hoping that stuttering will be gone .. Guess what ... NO .. it was still there.

I am having stuttering as well even before get into the game. It is already there even in the Menus of the game. Also I played around with Priority and selecting how many cores the game to use and again as OP said it just change the pattern of that stuttering ... no matter if I put the settings on low or on high. My specs are FX 6300 with GTX 750ti 2gvram Palit and 8 gigs of RAM .. I know that my rig isn't one of the best but it is decent enough to play modern games on almost on full details with (by almost means with no AA). Metro redux, Blag Flag, bf4, bf hardline, Alien Isolation, Vanishing of Eten Carter, etc... all games with high demanding hardware because they are so visually appealing don't have that kind of problem. I was experiencing the same issue with Far Cry 4, however I played then with the ini file settings and I have resolved this stutter in FC4. It was something with caching shadows or something I dont remember, it is just that FC4 had the same super duper annoying stuttering and I was able to fix it... but here the things with Dying Light are ... not quite the same.

I also tried so many variations with the options from nVidia control panel ... and nothing worked. Guys if somebody have any kind of solution ..... or it is about CPU performance issue and we have to wait for patch ???

Hey, i was in the exact same situation..
What operating system are you using ?
As mr91 suggested, i installed windows 8.1 (after i clean-reinstalled windows 7 with no luck) and stuttering was "poof" gone...
Also, patch 1.4.0 seems to solve many of the performance problems..

it's nice to know that you have found a solution for you but my problem is, i don't want to uninstall my customized Windows 7 and install a fresh Windows 8.1 copy and i can't keep Windows 7 & 8.1 together because i don't have sufficient space on my HDD.. so there is no fix to play smoothly on windows 7? so then i have to choose Windows 7 vs this game 🙁

P.S: never faced this kinda problem ever in my gaming life.. there was always a fix for everything (despite the compatibility issues and that's another thing. this game supports Windows 7 otherwise i would not be disappointed)

What are your specs?

Intel Core i5 4570 3.2Ghz
Corsair Vengeance 8GB DDR3 1600Mhz
Gigabyte GTX 660 2GB GDDR5

i got the exact same problem as riblee mentioned... tried lowering the settings to the game's minimum.. no difference.. even tried the optimal settings by Geforce Experience.. see pic below..

Well, that's a difficult call. At first, i was pretty sure it was some shitty optimization for my CPU, after i did my windows 7's a fresh install. Since windows 8.1 solved my problem i really don't know what to say.
I'm guessing bad optimization with certain hardware combos+OSes.
Tried everything before that, so it's not about your rig. However, if you feel you can't go through a fresh OS install right now skip it, or wait for a future patch and hope for a solution.
My opinion, this game deserves all the time you'll spend in it, so it deserves the time for a fresh start.

Fortunately my SSD is only for OS+programs.. + my last format was 4-4,5 years ago... i guess your situation is a bit more complex.. good luck though, whatever you'll do.

The Easiest way is to upgrade to Windows 8.1 because if this problem can be solved it might require extension trouble shooting...

Your issue's seem to be the same as Riblee's but that doesn't mean you have the same problem and solution.
I'm just giving you a disclaimer...

You might want to start a new thread and try to get it solved...

You can try doubling your Ram however there is no guarantee that it will work...
Windows 8.1 has a smaller memory footprint and is a better operating system with full update support...

well. thanks for you're valuable information guys.. i just wanted to start fresh when Windows 10 comes out (i didn't wanna spend time on Windows 8.1 and customizing or stuffs like that)

meanwhile, let's see if i can clear up some space for temporary Windows 8.1 install only for this game.. everyone is saying this game is awesome and worth playing, otherwise i wouldn't bother..

take a look at my resource usage for further analyzing (look cloesly at the GPU usage percentage:

Did you check the steam link above? It's about dying light process trying to start the dcom server (system process) every 2 seconds or so, hence the stutter.. i wish i could find this before the format..
Just do what it says and tell us if stuttering is gone (yeah i know it restarts the entire system after a couple of minutes but it's a progress).
