E84/8500 on GA-965P-DS3

I have a Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 rev.3.3 MB with F13 BIOS, I'm thinking of upgrading the CPU to a E84/8500, has anyone tried that on this MB. Gigabyte site states its unofficially supported.

Note that if you've got a stepping E0 CPU, you'll need to install the beta BIOS F14b first; stepping C0 will run with F13.
What CPU do you have now? What are your goals for your proposed CPU upgrade?

Mondoman, thanks for the reply.

I currently have a E6600 and its running at 2.4G, I have the FSB set to 400 and multiplier to x9 but 2.4 is what I get (266 x 9).

I probably should try overclocking it, have not done so in a serious manner as yet.

Non-OC'd, you'd only expect maybe a 35% CPU speed boost with the e8400, and I don't think that would be very noticeable to you. The really good OC's of e8x00's come from FSB's in the neighborhood of 1600MHz or more, and your older MB is going to have a hard time with that. If you go with a new CPU, I'd get a new modern MB at the same time (with something like a P45 chipset).
