I was wondering how close these two chips were in performance, the reason being the 550 is about 70 USD cheaper. So any charts and bench's would be appreciated
First go grab yourself a real OS. XP gives you a huge jump compred to Vista/7.
e8400 $167 and it can run 4.0 on stock cooler You paid $100 plus $40 ish for a cooler, $5.00 for paste?
AS5 was 2.99$ on Ebay Free Shipping 😉
Cooler was 29.99$ Free Shipping and trust me, it was one of the wisest decisions I made when I purchased the hardware.. 😉
Yea everyone knows that the E8400 can run @ 4Ghz with a stock cooler, it's no secret....But the question is, does that make you wise for doing such a thing? I don't think so, wanna see some temps that you will never be able to achieve using a stock cooler?
3.6Ghz (LOAD) <--- it says LOAD 😉 ** 37/38c MAX ..... At 4Ghz it tops out at 45c no matter what I do, all tests done at 28c ambient in an ANTEC 300 .....
1mb might not make much of a difference, but 5mb definitely will.... but of course value wise the E8400 might not be the best decision even with the extra cache.

Im currently waiting on a mobo and a copy of Vista 64 (Free Win 7 upgrade)... it will take about a week or so to get here but once I install it I will post the new scores....
Look at the graph above the stock 8600 has lots more cache but when the celeron is overclocked it it ouperforms the slower more cahce cpu. Clock for clock cache matters maybe 5%.
I can wait, I get me some $$$ tomoroow so I'll buy a P45 for this little gem. Ima shoot for 4.5 on P45 with aftermarket air. Should be easy since this mobo has 2 voltage adjustments and I got 4.0.
Daship, when i looked at your 3dmark chart your system with the celeron was at the bottom, but the 550 system was near the top...
Duh if you read most the posts you would know he has a GTX260 and I got a 8400GS. We were comparing CPU scores not total scores. An 8400GS gets like 700 points.
Be my guest, last person to beat my score using XP was a dude that was running an E5200 @ 4.0ghz and a XFX 4890 (1GB)... His score was 17,093 ....So basically he beat me by 500+ points using a more powerful GPU....
Not that you wont get a good score, of course you will... But it will will be a tight race... 😉
looks like the 260 definately has the advantage. Damn you nvidia. Cpu scores are hell close, try one at 3.8 on the money and the celeron should score more on the CPU score.
Quess Ill pown you next week with my P45 mobo and 5870
