I was wondering how close these two chips were in performance, the reason being the 550 is about 70 USD cheaper. So any charts and bench's would be appreciated

For US$70 more.... that's an expensive breakfast! I guess Intel prefers the gold flakes on it's pancakes? What can YOU do with US$70? You could actually woo a girl to kiss you for that much money! 😛 In all seriousness, if there is ANY question about Price😛erformance, you should immediately look into AMD.

Only if you have more money than sense should you certainly get an Intel CPU.

But if I were going to spend US$70 more for a CPU, I'd put that money into some other piece of the machine.

How many components can one buy for US$70? So, so many... More memory (or faster memory), a better video card, a cell processor (or at least move you very close to one), new periphrials such as a scanner/printer/mouse/keyboard/whatever; or how about a new chair? Or a nice rug for your workstation? A CAT CARRIER! Just thought of that. Uhmm How about sending your wife to a spa for the day? That'll certainly smooth over the fact that you're buying a new PC. If you don't have a wife or girlfriend, please refer to the "wooing" part of my post, here.

My very simple, if not sarcastic point is that unless you are buying the computer for -commercial- reasons, be more sensitive with your budget. Intel will make its money with or without your aid. Although, as a shareholder of AMD, Intel and Nvidia, you'll be giving me money, either way....

Well, I guess you'd be giving me MORE money (much more) if you bought an Intel CPU. So, I guess it comes down to whose pockets are you going to make bigger? Mine or yours? ;D

(psst! go Intel and give me more money!!)

(points excitedly) Right there! You could get a better motherboard with the US$70! Because, as you can see the CPU is crap without a motherboard to match, right?
