I was wondering how close these two chips were in performance, the reason being the 550 is about 70 USD cheaper. So any charts and bench's would be appreciated

@ 3.792Ghz (Your CPU score is around 100 points higher 😉 ) but you lost by 2000 points overall :lol:

So you have a 50.00$ CPU and a 52.00$ mobo, but yet you are willing to spend cash on a p45 mobo and a 399.99 $ GPU? IMO that is an INSANE bottleneck unless you upgrade the CPU to at least a Q9550 or above...... Just a thought.... 😉

I dont see anything wrong with XP, I have a DELL XPS 1530 that has Vista, and a netbook that has XP as well.... Bottom line, yes I accept that your CPU score is higher, but you stated the following :

===== Gauranteed I can slap in my 4870 and xp and beat his total score no problem. =====

So I am just going by what you said, I never stated that I would get a higher CPU score....

LOL, it aint over yet, I'll still try again on the P45. This crummy motherboard dont like FSB over 320. Ill crank her up to 450fsb on a p45 and run it again. It will make one hell of a differnce.

I think the 512 MB hurt my score also.

Like I said Im not into gaming so I'm not as knowledgeable in GPU as I am in everything else. From some benches I was just looking at looks like the 4890 and your card are a better comparison then my card.

Wait wait... BREAK!

@OvrClkr

How you gonna admit that his cpu score is higher and then point out that the gpu is why he lost? Him having a system that compares to yours and is even better for way less.

Insane bottleneck? I thought it was GPU bottleneck? So fine, fair enough, he thought the 4870 was going to be faster, but what does this have to do with the cpu when it's getting a higher score? What's crazy is your spending that much more and losing in the cpu score. Not only that, but it's a CELERON! His setup is BRILLIANT if you ask me.

@daship

Hey, if you got left over parts, email me, I'm in HI. LOL!

The reason I stated "INSANE" bottleneck" is due to me thinking he was going to buy a 5870 and pair it up with his Celeron.....Then later he posted that he will be getting an i7... So that makes more sense...

As far as him having a better system that is false, even though his CPU score was higher if he would have had the same GPU as me he would have gotton a higher score, even he pointed out that his GPU was the cause of his score. Celerons and Core2Duos are great CPU's, I never stated that my CPU was going to get a higher score, I stated that he would not be able to smoke my score and that it would be a tight race... Read above if you misunderstood my post.....

wait, wait wait! How is a celeron beating a phenom 2 clock for clock????

yeah but not old celeron architecture, and the phenom 2s were made to compete with core 2's not intels bottom line.

The CPU itself is not the factor here, the whole platform is superior regardless if the CPU is old or not, it has always been this way.... if you do some reaserch you will understand what I am talking about.... FYI a 10 year old CPU can beat my CPU's score any day, that's just the way it is =) ..... if this was not the case then AMD chips would cost much more and the scores would be alot different ... hope you get the idea =)

It is a like Pentium dual core with 1 mb less cache. That's all. It was released less than a week ago. Welcome to the world of the new Intel Celeron's.

@OvrClkr

I said it was better? I said it compared to yours.

I assure you a 10 year old CPU will not out score yours. This celeron is better/faster then a PII @ the same clock speed. It is a core 2 duo with 1mb cache, the cache is what differentiates Core 2/Pentium/Celeron. All the same chip, just different caches for different price ranges.

Its no news the AMD behind in technology.

If I had the same GPU as you you would loose hands down. Id buy one and prove it, but I refuse to buy any Nvidia above 8400GS. Besides, I got to save that $$ for my 5870.

Amd is good, I just think its funny a $50 CPU is faster then a $100 CPU. Im a Intel guy your a AMD guy, if it were the other way around you would think it was funny.

This hole thread is based on you thinking the PII was a good buy vs a e8400, but the e3200 is a e8400 with less cache @ a cheaper price. Basically AMD looses, Intel wins.

Well, not really... i have benched with a few C2D's/ Pent D EE / Celerons and at least in 3Dmark05 and 3Dmark06 to this date I have not been able to beat intel as far as the CPU score goes......so why is that? Of course in some benches my clock speed was higher and we would compare using different clocks but still not sure why the CPU score would be so high compared to mines....
