E8400 Overclock Fails at 4ghz with a TRUE :S

Hey guysIm having alittle trouble overclocking my E8400 past 3.96ghz
ill start off by telling you my system specs:
ASUS P5Q-E Mobo
C2D E84004Ghz
OCZ PC2 8000 XTC Platnuim Edition
XpertVision Radeon HD4870 Dual Edition 512MB (790/1100)
Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme  with Artic Silver 5
Maxtor DiamondMax 21  Sata 2   160GBLG DVD Drive
Thermaltake Tsunami Dream + 4 Fans
Coolermaster Realpower 700M modular power supply.
I can get my comp to boot at just over 4ghz (447x9)  and once it ran orthos Stress cpu and ram for over 3 hours  and also ran 3dmark06 at the same time, but after it finshed i opened internet expoler and it crashed.
Here's my BIOS Settings
CPU Frequency = 447
Multi = 9
DRAM TIMINGS = 6-6-6-18     (stock for my ram is 5-5-5-18 i think)
CPU Voltage at 1.34V (thats the max ive ever tryed)  stock is about 1.26
DRAM Voltage = 2.16 (Max ive tryed)   stock is 2.10
NorthBridge Voltage 1.24 (stock is 1.10)
Ive also tryed putting on an option thats mean't to increase stability of the memory   but doesnt seem to have any effect on stability.Im pretty sure its nothing to do with tempurature  as the max the cpu has been is 56C under 100% load  after 3 hours orthos on small FFT.

Any tips on BIOS settings or Voltage settings would be much appreciated.

is this the fastest my cpu will go? Please Help

Did you check error log of windows yet? Might have to do with internet explorer / windows rather than the overclock. Also, run orthos at least for 8 hours to test stability, preferably over 12 hours. You might need one or 2 notches vcore.

You mentioned PC 8000 memory, what is that? PC 6400 is DDR2800 and PC8500 is DDR21066. I would guess your memory is being overclocked past the speed it can safely operate.

Lets assume your memory is PC8500 since you said 8000 before and it runs at 5-5-5-18 at 2.1v, it might be 2.2v so check your ram. This means is will safely operate at 1066 mhz if supplied with adequete voltage. If your FSB is set to 447 and you didn't loosen your memory divider, its probably trying to run the ram between 1100 - 1250 mhz.

I've seen some 1066 be able to handle 1100+ speeds, then again I have 1066 rated ram that runs 5-5-5-15 at 2.2v that will randomly reboot if I try to run it over 1066.

Try upping your cpu voltage to 1.3625v which is in intel spec for this proc.

In responce to serpent1202 pc2 8000 is 1000mhz (i know its a bit odd lol)
and on the sticks of ram it says 2.1V standard Im not sure how high i can safely put it up to i have a feeling that 2.2v is pretty high.

TY Ragsters....ill try 1.36V in a mo.....upping the voltage worked well from 1.32v to 1.33v (orthos ran for about 45minutes longer) but upping it again to 1.34v didnt help....never the less ill still try 1.36v

Btw my mobo ram limit is DDR2 1200mhz so im thinking maybe my ram is being OC'D over the mobos limitations.

does any reacon that putting the timings up will help at all maybe to 6-6-6-21?


(p.S probably a nooby question, but how do i go about checking the windows error log? )

Ok so i increased the voltage on the cpu to 1.36v
this time it ran for 1 hour and 40 minutes which is alot better than 52minutes with 1.34v

the only reason it failed at 1 hour and 40minutes was because i decided to run far cry 2 benchmark whilst orthos was running.... is this a sign of total instability or is it just normal?
it was running fine until the benchmark... i even had some programs running like iTunes and internet explorer and MSN. Temps did increase to 59C on both cores because of the voltage increase but i dnt think 59C is anything to worry about.

Should i be pushing my cpu this much? is benching a good idea whilst using orthos and other programs?
Help Needed!!!

(p.s good news is that its running fine on the internet *touch wood*)

OK so now ive come to the conclusion that when i run a graphical application like 3dmark06 or farcry 2 benchmark it freaks out, so i tryed underclocking my HD4870 to 600mhz core clock and 1000mhz memory clock, this made very little difference (it did about 15 seconds more of the farcry 2 benchmark)
so now i really dont know what to try i might try and slack the DRAM timings off alittle more maybe to 7-7-7-21 but ill get shaby performance then =/
is a NB voltage of 1.30V to low?
should i be upping the RAM Voltage past 2.18V?
Any help would be great.

ok just changed the FSB to 440mhz(x9) =3.96ghz and it runs the farcry 2 benchmark fine first time but 63mhz higher (at 4.02ghz) it fails.

ive tryed upping the voltage on the memory to 2.2v the NB to 1.32v and the cpu to 1.368v and i tryed 7-7-7-21 timings but it didnt post.
i also enabled some stability enhancers like Mem OC charger amd a few overs but this didnt help stability.
i also tryed setting the DRAM mhz to 895(wouldnt post at anything higher)
but it crashed when trying to load the FC2 benchmark.

so now its on auto with 2.18v @ 6-6-6-18 (although 5-5-5-18 worked just aswell)
my cpu is at 440x9 = 3.96ghz and just under 1800mhz FSB with 1.362v

i guess ill just leave it at 3.96ghz kinda annoying that i cant get to that golden 4ghz when im so close maybe my cpu just isnt capable of 4.00ghz.
could any1 tell me how i can loosen my memory divider? i still think the memory is holding the cpu back
