E8400 Processor upgrade from e6550

can i uprgrade my processor from the e6550 to e8400 or can someone tell me a better option

Yes you can upgrade, both same use LGA 775

Yes You Can Update But You Should Check Wether The CPU Is Supported By Your Motherboard. Please Post Your Motherboard Make And Model Here!

Also, LGA775's are Ended For Life.. Which Means That No New Processors Are Coming For Them! The Q8400 Is A Powerful Quad Core But An i3-2100 Beats It!
If You Have The Money, Please Get The i3-2100 Plus A Good Motherboard For Now! Which Means In Future You Can Upgrade To i5-2500K Or Better(As 2nd generationj i3 nd i5 use same socket(1155))!
But if you have the money to go for an i5 stragiht away, then do it!

the motherboard must support 1333fsb to use the e8400. At this stage as said above, its better to replace your motherboard and cpu with something newer.
