Hello,

After doing a bit of research on how to overclock I decided to give it a shot. Just in case I'm doing something terribly wrong I would like if you could tell me what to fix and also what could be improved. I reached a 3.6Ghz OC but my goal is reaching 4Ghz. Checked with OCCT the CPU's temperature and it won't go over 64º, also tested games like crysis warhead, far cry2, batman for quite a while without any kind of problems.

Here is my BIOS:

In the "AI Tweaker" menu of the BIOS:

_AI overclock Tuner: [Manual]
_FSB FREQUENCY: [403]
_PCIE FREQUENCY: [100]
_FSB STRAP TO NORTH BRIDGE: [400MHZ]
_DRAM FREQUENCY [DDR2-806MHZ]
_DRAM TIMING CONROL [AUTO]
1st information: 5-5-5-15-3-52-6-3
2nd information: 8-3-5-4-6-4-7
3rd information: 14-5-1-6-6
_DRAM STATIC READ CONTROL [AUTO]
_DRAM READ TRAINING [AUTO]
_MEMORY OC CHARGER [AUTO]
_AI CLOCK TWISTER [AUTO]
_AI TRANSACTION BOOSTER [AUTO]
c/p: A1 A2 A3 | B1 B2 B3
lvl : 13 13 13 | 13 13 13

_CPU VOLTAGE: [1.22500]
_FSB TERMINATION VOLTAGE: [1.40]
_MEMORY VOLTAGE: [1.90]
_NORTH BRIDGE VOLTAGE: [1.40]
_SOUTH BRIDGE VOLTAGE: [1.50]

_LOAD-LINE CALIBRATION: [ENABLED]
_CPU GTC REFERENCE [AUTO]
_CPU SPREAD SPECTRUM: [AUTO]
_PCIE SPREAD SPECTRUM: [AUTO]
_CPU CLOCK SKEW: [AUTO]
_NB CLOCK SKEW: [AUTO]
_CPU MARGIN ENHANCEMENT: [OPTIMIZED]

In the "ADVANCED" menu of the BIOS:

_CPU RATIO SETTINGS: [09.0]
_C1E SUPPORT: [DISABLED]
_MAX CPUID VALUE LIMIT: [DISABLED]
_INTEL (R) VIRTUALIZATION TECH: [DISABLED]
_CPU TM FUNCTION: [DISABLED]
_EXECUTE DISABLE BIT CAPABILITY: [DISABLED]

I get this from CPU-Z:

My computer Specs are:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8500

Motherboard: ASUS P5QL PRO

RAM: 2 X Teamgroup Elite DDR2 800Mhz 2GB

GPU: ASUS 5850

PSU: Corsair HX-750W Modular

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

If there is something that can easily be buffed up or something that isn't suppose to be like I did, I would appreciate someone letting me know. Thanks

With 800Mhz it may difficult to reach 4Ghz. Theoretically, you could only get to 3.6Ghz (9x400Mhz).
Assuming you 9x, your RAM would have to work @ 888Mhz, some 20% above specs.

I have this same chip, I got it OC'ed to 3.8ghz, multiplier was x9.5 though (780i motherboard). I also have ddr2 800 mhz ram. I don't know how to get it past 3.8 ghz though with the ram that I have because I'm not sure on how to OC the memory, anyone know how to do this?

Hello,
I realize this post has been dead for a while but I started messing with an e8500 cpu on and asus P5QL-PRO mobo and figured I would post what i was able to get just in case there is someone out there wanting to juice up their core2 cpu.

So heres what I have..

Asus P5QL-PRO
Intel core2duo e8500 3.16ghz
6gb pc2-8500 kingston hyperx 5-5-5-15@1066
eVGA Geforce gtx460 oc @ 850/1700/2000
Coolermaster eXtreme 600w psu

My Bios looks like this.

ai tweaker
AI overclock Tuner: [Manual]
FSB FREQUENCY: [400]
PCIE FREQUENCY: [100]
FSB STRAP TO NORTH BRIDGE: [400MHZ]
DRAM FREQUENCY [DDR2-1066MHZ]
DRAM TIMING CONROL [AUTO]
1st information: 5-5-5-15-3-52-6-3

CPU SPREAD SPECTRUM: [AUTO]
PCIE SPREAD SPECTRUM: [AUTO]
CPU CLOCK SKEW: [AUTO]

advanced tab
CPU RATIO SETTINGS: [09.5]
C1E SUPPORT: [DISABLED]
MAX CPUID VALUE LIMIT: [DISABLED]
INTEL (R) VIRTUALIZATION TECH: [DISABLED]
CPU TM FUNCTION: [DISABLED]
EXECUTE DISABLE BIT CAPABILITY: [DISABLED]

and finally this is what I get from cpu-z

Now I haven't had a chance to really put a load on the cpu but I have spent some time playing games like Crysis2, Left4Dead2, BFBC2 with good stability and I reached a max tjunction temp on core#0 @ 57c core#1 @ 52c using a thermaltake TMG i2 cpu cooler.
Well I hope someone out there finds this useful.
