I am a PC gamer so this comment could be bias.
First the gaming market as you know it (in the traditional form) is shrinking, in fact is migrating to the mobile platform and to a certain extent to the PC. The signs are so obvious: weak wiiU and AAA Titles (like Gears Juggernaut, God of war Ascension and the latest Tomb Rider) sales, just to name a few. And because of this we will have the most anemic ''next gen'' ever. Both Sony and Microsoft didn't want to invest to much, because of the uncertain market. The sony approach is a conservative one, make a console with minimum investment and hardware that could still be call ''next gen'', microsoft approach was quite different, instead of creating a uber hardware console and compete directly with sony (on a shrinking market battlefield ) they created a weaker hardware version and target a different market. I don't think the next gen will catch any wings in the future because of the following reasons:
1. there is a global economic recession
2. the "next gen'' will bring little value in comparison to the actual generation
3 .All kind of obscure drm and and fees for the second hand games.
Now a short comparison of the next gen platforms
Nintendo traditional approach, weak on hardware strong on creativity scheme, will not work anymore; you have the mobile and indie games for that.
Microsoft approach to create a new market, again I don't think will succeed, because is an artificial market they are trying to create and there is no demand for that.
Now sony took the healthiest approach in my opinion in fact they have the same approach from ps1, the conservative one. Their generations are clearly define ps1,ps2,ps3 ps4 not like the others xbox#$% or nintendo wiixy, they aren’t trying to hunt new markets in a radical way and is the strongest platform hardware wise from their generation but even so it will be a mere shadow of what ''next gen'' meant in the past. 90% of their games will be capped at 30fps (because the hardware is suitable to go strong on the graphics and weak on the fps) the price of heaving a weak cpu, and I can hardly call this next gen in my opinion.
You can understand the value of the next gen only by the way they are marketed, as oppose with the previous generations of consoles when they were screaming out loud: xy bit processing power, xy gigahertz, xy gflops this time around their lips will be completely sealed only sony making a few announcement of their hardware prowess because they are confident that they have the most powerful console in town but even so, they will no go to the full extent because they don't want their console to look like a midget to the PC
So where does this leave the PC. As you know in the past the PC was the garbage can of the gaming industry but now is coming back stronger and vibrant as ever. You have the indie movement in full swing(And I think we will see more of similar minecraft phenomenon), you have a huge mod community that is bringing from time to time new successful genders to the table so that others could exploit later(the transition from counter striker to the call of duty is a good example), you have middle weight titles coming from kickstarter and AAA going to "free to play" that are very suitable for the pc platform (traditional AAA games are not suitable for PC because of the piracy, crisis 1 was played by more the 15 mil people, this kind of dwarfs any single halo game so there is a huge potential in PC AAA market if only publishers will find innovative ways to monetize their products). And I have examples to back this up, Crytek is making the transition to a free to play company and is targeting the PC, we will have the return of the prodigal son Epic (who so blatantly sad in the past that is a console company) go strong to the PC platform again, right now they are working on a PC exclusive ''Fornite'' and as far as I know they don't have an official announcement of an console exclusive.
One think we need to understand is that allegiance and loyalty is only for the fan boys, publishers and console creators will ALWAYS find allegiance with the money flow.
Now my answer to this idiotic statement about “next gen” capable of making skynet a reality, all I can say is they are disparate as hell to make the ''next gen'' succeed, they are so desperate to prolong the “status quo'' that sometimes they look like clowns to me. If the next gen doesn’t succeed they will be pretty much fucked, because they don't have the means to adapt to the new market trends.

Hahaha! Lets see the consoles utilize three or more monitors! Is he saying that there consoles can out run two highend video cards and 4-6 core processor running at 4ghz plus how dedicated audio hardware. .. call bull out on this guy

Great article until the reference to mobile causing concern to PCs. Every advance starts big and fees smaller- PCs will always reign supreme. The reason smartphones are"rapidly" improving is because the gap between phones/tablets and desktops was so huge.

Five years ahead? LOL! Using that analogy, your video card, DDR3 RAM, and HDD is five years old.
Anything offered by these new gaming consoles is most certainly (already) available on PC.

That's nice, they failed to mention this "one generation ahead is as of toady", by the release date it will be equivalent to a PC and just three to six months later, it will be old news compared to what the PC component space will offer.

Just when you think the clowns at EA can't say anything more stupid, along comes this asshat. SoC architecture will never, EVER replace the power and performance of separate and dedicated GPUs. Not with the current technology of silicon anyway. Perhaps one day if we can figure out how to run CPUs/GPUs on crystal technology ala Star Trek.
Let's see what the frame rates are on these new 4G consoles running 4K resolutions natively. Yeah...that's what I thought.

lolwut? my pc is 2 years old and still more powerful than either system, new gaming pc's are massively more powerful than the new consoles. I know these EA guys are stupid, but do they also smoke a ton of drugs before they make their ludicrous comments?

MS will do one hardware refresh after another as they realize the hardware they utilized just simply cannot compete with the average gaming pc.
Cloud gaming for backward compatibility is cool, but what happens when the 40 million units you sold are using that technology simultaneously?
And paying to play your games online when you already pay for internet is a ripoff. You are paying for MS server farms that power cloud gaming.

oh wait, i just read that again, technically he is right. He says they are a generation ahead of even the most powerful pc, not that they are more powerful than that pc. Which is true for a few more months til those parts come out for pc. Its sort of like saying a gtx 660 is gen ahead of a gtx 590. Its true, but its still vastly inferior. On the other hand those parts arent out yet for those systems either, soooooooo.....yeah this guy is an idiot who spews stuff that idiots believe and is very misleading, he should run for political office.

Hmmm... Maybe he means that we need next generation of PC to run games like these new consoles with pure APU without using any external GPU to help the situation... That actually can make a sense... It takes some time untill Intel or AMD APU in PC can do the same as these new consoles does. Still I think that it will not take too long untill highend APU can do nicely as an gaming PC without any discrete GPU...
They don't claim that these new consoles are faster than best PC hardware in these days, just that these are generation ahead technologically speaking. Still somewhat vague claims...
If he instead refers to that that they will calculate some things the console needs in cloud servers, then it is not something new. Many multiuser PC games do it allso. But if he refers the combination that new consoles are APU based, they use cloud to enhange the gaming experience and so on. Compared to that most modern PC eguipment are old fachioned in some way even they are much much faster in real time use. Maybe indeed in future in 5 years allso most PC games are played with pure APU prosessors and anything that APU can not do is rendered in cloud farms like the Nvidia has been predicting for some time... Who knows... but I personally still prefer to play the game locally and go internet to meet other players when I want and when the net just happen to work properly...
It will be a outch time to all players if games start to refuce to start without internet connection! And that time we may see in 5 years if those "big" gaming moguls gets what they want...

Hog Wash if you ask me. There have always been claims of better than PC but in the end once the launch and media blitz its all better than last consoles but nothing more... they claim this and that but better than PC is like the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. PC's change so fast and have such a high potential that even if you could upgrade the internals on the consoles as the systems got older they would still fall short by a few months to PC's due to R&D and the expense would not be justified. This is pure hype nothing more... this will be clear very soon.

What ever this nit wit is sticking in his pipe and smoking ... can I please have some... it obviously gives the user strong delusions and heightened euphoria over one's self.

"These architectures are a generation ahead of the highest end PC on the market and their unique design of the hardware, the underlying operating system and the live service layer create one of the most compelling platforms to reimagine game mechanics,"
What a load of horseshit. These consoles are already outmatched in about all areas by PCs, and not even high end ones. Dont drink the koolaid, folks.

That's probably the dumbest statement ever made. I mean I get having to pimp products for your company, but at what point do you still have to be able to look at yourself in the mirror?
