It's a step in the right direction.

Also, you're very late Tom's. I've read this on another site like, 20 minutes ago.
/sarcasm intended for jerks who spend their entire day reading tech sites and posting crap

Ya agree with rmmil978's point. Internet access should be a worry that is far, far down on a list of priorities for Egyptians in their current state.

No, rpmrush, internet is one of the most valuable free-speech and organizing tools that people have access to. It is one of the most important things to protect.

That was quick, I would have figured they were doing this to "get a major beat down" on some people it wanted to without anyone releasing video of police brutality. Eh, maybe they just needed to take some of them down to install some hefty packet sniffing/filter tools.

Personally, I'm happy I live in the USA. Internet is not yet a right here at is for other countries as I believe it should be, however, we have not yet taken the step into using public services as a way to control the general populace.

The thought that a government can turn on and off a public service for the entire populace as a tool for control is obsurd. Next, they will shut off power, water, food.

You miss the point of what they are using the internet for as part of the protests, but props for the "FML" usage.

Google "Obama internet kill switch". Collapse is coming soon enough and we will eventually see it used in the name of "security".

it's not that bad over there. its a peaceful protest, or was until the pro-government mob started throwing rocks at the protesters.

Not at all. Disabling the internet is like if you would stop news papers from printing because you don't want information to reach your citizens. The Internet is today's mean for information and is very important as a tool.

I think this was a smart move to take away the internet and then put it back up this must have made many protesters run back home to get their much needed porn fix and lolcats.

American education at its finest....I wonder how many kids these days could even pinpoint Egypt on a globe without Google maps telling them where it's at

The primary reason it was shut down was to squelch the uprising trying to unite. It is incredibly important to have the internet as a tool and I couldn't agree with you more.

what happened that there was a crisis that still happens till the time of writing of this lines...if u seen die hard 4 it's something like that...but it was an attack from the people of Egypt to take down the government. and now it will become a civil war.
by the way
the scumbags who say that we r ignorants and we are bout 100 away of the civilized people
search history to know who learned Europe the civilization and also please ask anyone who is wise enough about the Egyptian scientists who got elite positions in nasa and most of the scientific agencies all over europe and the usa

with the way african countries are revolting and redrawing borders and names no globe is ever correct since the british empire lost control of all africa. you need google just to keep up when another african country fractures and splits every 6 weeks!
