Enthusiastics, any recommendations? High-End gaming/autoCAD 780 build

Solution
im pretty sure you heard of it when you are in vancouver or toronto.

get the ud3h. the ud5h isnt really worth the extra cost when they perform exactly the same

the ax 850 and the xfx 850 are both single rail psus. i think you are talking about modularity of the cables. both psus are fully modular. non-modular psus are slightly more efficient but 80+ gold is pretty efficient anyways

Interesting .. do you know the difference in Windforce #3 and ACX cooler if I were to go with these?

I'm still fairly new to building high-end gaming computers..

hi there..
For the SSD a samsung 840 pro 256 gb has some of the meanest numbers out there... Maybe even a PCIE based ssd if you can afford it (definitely not worth the money but only pure performance)

even though the numbers are showing 2 770s in SLI to be better performing but 6gb gddr5 on the titan would help in memory intensive stuff on 1 gpu (not divided between 2 gpus) especially in more power hungry games and higher textures

cheers.......

if its a gaming pc, which it is judging by the 8gb of ram, you are better off without a ret@arded titan hydrocopper. biggest waste of money and time you can ever purchase

get this

-you dont game with a i7. they are no better than the i5s anyways for games
-if you are to watercool, id suggest using a h220 from swiftech and then build from there on
-i realistically doubt you wont fill 6tb of storage.
-use a cheaper SSD. they perform the same in real life
-the mpower max is no better than a much cheaper gigabyte option
-the xfx 850w is cheaper and is the same thing

I noticed through Amazon that the price for 770s vary by the brand name. I'll just keep in mind for EVGA since they seem more known for graphic cards. Although, I'm still unsure whether to choose from Titan or 770-SLI ... I could just SLI the Titan but that'd be worth half the computer alone, hehe.

Thanks msahni and jinayhvora for the input!

There is a strong chance I'll be using this for AutoCAD MEP/Fabrication 2014 as well. I think downgrading would be a bad idea if so. Do you think this i7 would be enough (for just incase) or should I even go for ...
Intel Core i7 Extreme Edition i7-3970X 3.5GHz 5.0GT/s 15MB LGA2011 Processor without Fan, Retail BX80619I73970X
That thing looks like a waste of money to me, but I could be wrong! I'd also go for 64gb instead of 8gb or 16gb and should I stay with Vengeance if I do?

I can only find one version of the h220 cooler on Amazon and that's the H20-220 Edge, any good? I was told it's good.. just looks funny.

I'm currently checking reviews for Gigabyte Z87 motherboards. Do you have any personal opinion/suggestion based on the other parts?

The wiring on the xfx 850w bothers me a bit but I'll keep that in mind if I need the extra buck.

Thanks!

therefore you should be getting the 4770k. the 3970x is for the 12 year olds who think that higher cost = higher performance

get a kit of 4x8gb 1600mhz 1.5v ram. the cheaper the better

you are in canada, there is no reason to buy from amazon. ncix has you covered. and no, dont get the h20 220 edge. its a old kit and not the one i am recommending

how does it bother you? its the same exact unit as the ax850. they are both made by seasonc and they are both based off of the x850 platform that seasonic rebadges for its customersi

I never heard of NCIX that's why. I'll use it from now on!

I might go with the Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD5H Z87 LGA instead of mpower.

I had a bad experience with my previous PSU having one rail in a really bad cable management chassis. I told myself never again. Is it because a single rail is a better performance over those detachable wires?

Sorry if I'm asking a lot of questions. I appreciate your help and time!

Alright, last question I have: since I'll be using this build mostly for gaming, HDTV (for movies) and a strong chance of AutoCAD/fabrication. Should I still go with the Titan GTX (assuming I have the cash for it) for better quality or stick with the EVGA SLI-770 combo for performance?

I think everything else I have a pretty good idea of what I'll be getting. :)

its a HDTV, you dont ever need anything more than a single 770. given you are in canada, it makes no sense to get the evga cards when the msi twin frozrs are 20 bucks cheaper at the minimum

a hdtv runs at around 30 or 60hz. the claims of 120hz and 240hz are false so dont make the assumption that you need all that horsepower

The SLI would be for gaming at max settings on every game and maybe for the next couple years. The MSI Twin Frozrs aren't offered with 770s, are they?

All-in-all, I'm looking for top performance for high-mid range pricing. I don't need to make records but still want it (the build) top notch.

nothing for sure will max out every game for the next couple of years. i can assure you right now that by next year you will be playing at a ultra preset no matter what GPU config you slap at it

they were always avaliable for 770s. dont know where you have been lately but they have been out before whatever EVGA threw together

Ottawa, Ontario

I won't be making the purchase until December / January. So, I didn't even look for shipping costs. I simply assumed there would have to be one so I approximated.

I might buy pieces progressively instead of buying it all at once seeing most parts are back order or unavailable anyways. The suggestions today was mostly to start getting me informed on what is considered good or bad, useful and not.

The 2,5k to 3k gives me a number to start my budget on as well.

avoid buying things progressively. its a good way to be burned out.

the things that you can buy progressively are the power supply, dvd drive, OS, hard drives, and the heatsinks. the rest should only be bought when there is a extreme deal or when you actually need it

Hopefully you're still around.

For the Corsair Air Series SP120 High Performance Edition, do I need a Fan Controller if the case doesn't come with one? I've seen reviews saying the fans can be a bit loud and may be slowed down if that's the case.

I'm going for the NZXT SWITCH 810 White Full Tower Chassis.

I'll take your word for it! Thanks!

Any thoughts on sound cards? I know regular speakers and home theater systems won't be as good as headphones but what if you're not a headphone kind of guy. Is the sound card upgrade just not worth it for speakers?

I'm looking at the ASUS Xonar DG 5.1 Channel PCI Sound Card 24BIT specifically since the next one up is over a couple hundred bucks.
