epson printer 870

Please can some help

three weeks ago I had a virus on my system could not drag
or drop or burn anything to cd
so I decided to re-load xp in a different section
having done this I copied everything that I needed and
formatted my hard drive and re-loaded windows xp using
the four disks that came with the pc
Every seemed to working ok but seven days ago my printer
kept showing a connection error so I decided to uninstall
it
and reload the printer software but since then my printer
will not work
windows has found two drivers 870 and 870 esc/p2 and then
it shows a error screen saying there has been a error in
loading the drivers
Have spent the last few days speaking to Epson but they
asked me to contact Microsoft and Compaq but that as been
going on for over two weeks

Cannot find my LPT1 printer port when you click on
printer properties and click ports

You need to CORRECTLY uninstall and then reinstall your printer.....

The latest drivers are at the Epson website..... download them and install
them BEFORE connecting the printer to the PC... the software will TELL YOU
when to connect. When that part is complete, then download and install the
Status Monitor package which will give you indications on when the ink is
low etc.

thanks for your reply I went to site you asked me to
did everything but as soon as I pluged my printer in it
found two drivers and a message there is a problem
installing this hareware epson stylus photo 870 ESC/P2
the specified port is unknown .printer properties then
ports LPT2 is ticked
there is no LPT1 printer port on my system
