EQ2: Shard, will you go away, please?

I've died twice in Antonica in places surrounded by enemies. There is no
way for me to survive re-entering those places to retrieve my shard. I
don't care about how long it takes me to regain my spirits. Is there a way
to delete my shard recovery quests? If not, how long will it take for me to
regain my two spirits?

Thanks in advance.

Your shards will automatically be recovered in 72 hours real time.

That's what the manual says but it is wrong. I had a soul shard lost in
the Beat Bog for well over 3 days.

Your best bet is to try and tag along onto a high level group. You
don't need to physically group with them but wait until they have
cleared out the enemies and run in and get your shard.

Do the mobs there dress in black and play bongos?

I hear the named Beat - Ginzberg - drops a scrap of poetry
or something. But it doesn't rhyme.

Another way to walk up to the entrance to the zone and right click. It will
ask if you want to recover you shard. This works on all dungeons so it
should work were their is a door.

The shards fade after 5 days, I think - same time as the sprit loss.

Doh! Wish I'd known this a few days ago. At lower levels I guess you don't
miss the spirit loss as much as later levels. I hardly noticed any change.
Thanks for the tip.

Ah, the only time I ever tested this was in beta and it did in fact work
then after 72 hours. Haven't had a lost shard in retail and I don't see any
reason why they'd change this feature (although it wouldn't surprise me much
if they had). Maybe you're bugged in some other way, /bug it and post in the
forums so they know it's happening if it is a bug. As others have pointed
out, you can also right click on the door of an instanced zone (like
Firemyst) and choose Recover Shard. This might also work for other dungeons
but it was specifically added for the case where you couldn't re-create the
lost instance or couldn't go back in during a lockout period and thus needed
a way to recover your shard.

Can you find a few others to help you get there? What is impossible for
one may be possible for two or three.
