[citation][nom]Pyroflea[/nom]I think it's ridiculous that Steve Jobs puts his ego ahead of compatibility. I hate Flash too, don't get my wrong, but that's no reason to have your products not run the majority of websites properly. It's not websites' jobs to make compatible websites for iProducts, but that's exactly what's happening. It's not right.[/citation]

Well in the not so distant past there were sites that only worked on Internet Explorer because Microsoft had their own set of standards that differ from the rest of the world. That changed as other browsers became more popular because people were tired of mediocre Internet Explorer and so will your dependence on Flash. As more sites rebuild to work on HTML5 (a standard) that argument will become less and less relevant.

Good things are finally starting to happening.

They should also have a look at the bottom.

To EU, please make following rules:
>platform owners (includes Operating Systems and instruction sets) are not entitled to deny licensing of their products or standards( including api's) to third parties.

>platform owners are not entitled to cause incompatibilities on non-technical grounds

What do you people think about those rules?

I probably hate apple more then most people and all thier total crap products that everyone else made better cheaper and better looking (also working) long before apple decided to remake the wheel..

But like with MS teh EU has no freaking business telling apple they have to do crap like use other peoples software. And if they want to limit thier crappy itunes to thier crappy mp3 players i say let them and let the smart people buy something that doesnt suck.

EU suck it really.

[citation][nom]loneninja[/nom]What's next, Intel and AMD require socket compatibility?[/citation]
Forcing Intel to at least play less with different sockets just like AMD does, would be nice...

Apple or not this is upside down.
What we all want is a Flash mobile version for that wont consume your battery in 2 hours when surfing the internet, AND is not because SJ says so, is because Flash is power inefficient.

So, EU, force Adobe to produce an efficient software and then force Apple to adopt Flash.
Prediction from someone who is not an expert. EU will fail with this.

[citation][nom]r_pad[/nom]I'm no fanboy for apple, but where is the justice? So will apple have to support the users that choose to install itunes but have a zune player? This isn't right![/citation]
You mean like MS will be getting support calls from people who install Firefox (or Safari or Opera) and have problems with it? Hell MS already probably get support calls for many programs they did not make.

The EU is nothing but a Socialist (Commie) organization that thinks they have the right to micromanage and tell private business how to run just like any good commie loving regime does..

[citation][nom]Fluffedhead[/nom]All the EU is trying to do is give consumers the choice to choose. It's called freedom! If you don't want flash then you don't have to put it on your phone. But the choose should be yours to make, not Apple's choice. I am an iPhone user I've had the last 3 iPhones, but because I enjoy Freedom, I've been forced to jailbreak my phones in order to run apps Apple has deemed unworthy, these unapproved apps are great! Without jailbreaking I would never by the iPhone. Apple acts as a dictator, telling the consumer what's best for them and not allowing anything they dissapprove of. Apple doesn't even have a good reason for not allowing certain apps like Google Voice, and other apps the don't like they make up some lame excuse. I applaud the EU for looking out for the consumer.[/citation]

The EU is not trying to give anyone a choice. The consumer already has a choice, they can choose to buy an Apple product or something else. The EU does not have the authority to tell Apple what their products have to support or require that Apple let iTunes support 3rd party hardware. The EU is completely overstepping their bounds.

I think the EU should force all cars made in Europe to have engines compatible with small block Chevy parts. Starters-$30, water pumps-$30, alternators-$30. Or, better yet, force all car makers everywhere to use the same parts. Think of the money we'd save.

It seems to me, they are trying to help their sinking brand, Nokia to survive. So:

1. You can get iTunes sync. with Nokia phones.
2. You can get iBooks sync. with Nokia tablets.
3. You can get iPhone games running on Nokia phones and tablets.

And seems, the EU think Apple is the god of technology gadgets such that, there is no other products on the market to compete with them.

Or because they think Google will be thrown out of EU because of anti-trust issues coming to her.

Or just simply because, people living in EU like to have Flash on iPhone so much that, even Flash on Android is not the combination they like.

It is the Flash Lite blocking the development of a common result between desktops and mobile devices!

If it is not iPhone, Flash Lite will be there forever and there won't be any hardware acceleration.

I think it's definitely time for the U.S. to step on the EU once again. Their treatment of American companies has gotten to be abusive, simply because they can't innovate in those areas, and have resentment. So, we all know they make great cars (Germans, anyway), so let's attack their cars. I don't think the French or Italians sell anything worthwhile, except maybe for perfumes, cheese and olives, but I'm sure we could find a way to make it painful for them.

Or better yet, pull our military and make them try to defend themselves. Seven hillbillies and an angry dog could conquer a good section of Europe, outside of the UK. They'd have to build up some kind of military, and that's expensive. We could also boycott their aircraft, since they compete with ours, or at least make it so their airplanes must be able to accomodate GE & Pratt & Whitney engines.

Maybe the simplest thing to do is ban exports and watch the continent crash into the industrial age again.

They've gone to far with their beating up our companies. Too bad we have a girly-man in the White House. If Reagan were there, things would be different.

[citation][nom]thesupermedium[/nom]Nanny government. If I were at the helm of Apple I would just leave Europe because it's obviously run by a bunch of day care sitters saying "now Apple... you can't have that good syncing system as an advantage... that's not fair"[/citation]

Well, when you've got american companies like Apple acting like children, they need a nanny. Perhaps if they stopped being so self centred, grew up a bit and stopped trying to have everything their way and use dubious practices to try and get a strangle hold on the market there wouldn't be any need for someone to tell them to grow up and stop acting like petulant pugnacious brats, and actually do things which benefit the customers instead of themselves... of course if they only want to operate somewhere where no-one cares about the general public, and are only interested in the money they make and how successful they are, they are welcome to back out of Europe.

Maybe because, unlike America, the EU actually wants to take some responsibility for it's citizens. We all know America is about corporations and money, and gives china a run for it's money on not giving a crap about the people.

PLaystations don't have flash on there browser, So I guess under equal application of the law the EU would have to shove flash down Sony's throats too?

I think if anyone stood back and looked at this for 5 secs they'd realize it's simply a power grab by the EU. All this talk of Apple and Adobe is Shortsighted.

[citation][nom]deathknight01[/nom]What authority does the EU have over an American company?[/citation]

Apple is a "global" company. Just because they are headquartered in the USA doesn't mean they can go to iRaq and shoot civilians.. Oh wait that's another USA based corp (Blackwater, FWIW). I meant that they need to abide by the laws of the areas in which they do business, in Apple's case, if they sell products in the EU, then it's up to the EU to regulate Apple's products being sold in that region.

iDiots may fail to understand this point, but if the EU has it's way, Apple will finally be forced to play nice with everyone, not just companies that Apple likes. If flash runs bad on the iPhone/iPad, then don't visit a flash based website, or install flash. Pretty simple, right? It should not be up to Jobs to decide what I can and cannot run on my freaking device, and it's about time something was done about it. It's only because of the EU, that Apple was required to sell unlocked iphones in the first place. I'm not an ATT hater (Disclaimer: I own a iphone 3g), but there are some days I wish I could at least have the freedom to try out another carrier.

The only thing the EU is "forcing" is cooperation, and it is in no way bad for consumers.
