Would anyone be able to explain the real differences between these Intel chipsets--975X, 955X, and 945P?

I'm looking to build a new homemade PC but I'm on a budget and I don't want to pay for stuff I don't need. For example, the Intel D975XBX2 motherboard (which is a 975X based board) has more junk on it than I really need. I don't need RAID, dual PCI express x16, or S/PDIF digital audio out.

In most cases, the Southbridge is a better version (ICH7 etc) plus better Audio and SATA controllers.

The only big difference I can see is the 975xbx (rev304) supporting Core 2 Duo with crossfire.

Budget system FOR ME is $1500--including monitor, keyboard, mouse, and copy of Windows XP Home Edition. Not including speakers, printer, soundcard, or network card.

I don't care about dual video card support or overclocking. But this will primarily be a gaming rig.

And oh yes, it will be based around an Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 and an Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS. Thanks for any input.
