PC experts, which i'm not, I need an honest opinion on my prebuilt rig. Parts are so damn hard to find these days that a basic GTX 1660 is now going for around $500 on Amazon or Newegg. So I had to resort to a build and the best value I found is Alienware and because I have a $4K tab with them. So here is what I purchased today. PLEASE let me know if it's a bad build or if I should wait. I can always cancel the order.

Alienware Aurora R10:

Ryzen 5800X (I went with the 8 core only because of future proofing. I would like this build to last around 7 yrs.)
1TB SSD nvme
32GB Dual channel 3400Mhz
6800XT (I chose this ONLY because it's a 16GB card. Supposedly the RTX 3080 Ti could be 16 or 20GB but no one is sure if it will appear and at what cost). Ray tracing for me is not a big deal but FPS, is.
Wifi 6
1000W PSU with liquid cooling

Total cost minus tax was $2429.99. Delivery date should be Feb 24th.

I got a better today as Alienware discounted my PC by 10%, so I got the same build for around $2295 plus tax.

That's not a bad price, really, considering it comes with WIn10, etc..

(You'd have been at $1900 by my quick summary totaling of parts cost (or more!), and even then only if you got a 6800XT at retail cost)

Yeah that is what I figured but lets be real. Dell is probably making about $700-800 profit but here in lies the problem. The latest CPU's and GPU's are almost non-existent these days unless you live on the computer waiting for one to pop up on some retailers site. I saw some YT videos running Microsoft Flight Simulator with a 5800X and RX 6800 XT and it was running it in 4K hovering around 60FPS on Ultra Settings flying over NYC.

So all things considered NO, it's not really a bad deal at all. In fact looking at it from the half glass full, this Alienware is priced rather low for the specs. I tried customizing a iBuyPower and HP Omen and they don't come close to the Alienware in price.

This is a good pc. But for gaming 16 gb is enough but no problem, 32 gb is not that much overkill , you have a great pc but can you tell me which mobo that prebuilt has?

I'm confident that that 1000Watt PSU with liquid cooling would serve you well... a great PSU helps a pc along many miles...

This is a good pc. But for gaming 16 gb is enough but no problem, 32 gb is not that much overkill , you have a great pc but can you tell me which mobo that prebuilt has?

I shall once I receive it. From the pictures I see on their website it has the Alienware logo so it might not have the real mfg's brand label on it. Do the AMD 5000 series CPU's require a Bxx style mobo? I've read something in the past that suggest these CPU's require a certain series mobo. Maybe I read wrong.

Wrt 16GB of memory you are correct however Microsoft Flight Simulator according to Microsoft can use up to 32GB if you want to run it in 4K with the settings dialed up. This rig is primarily just for MS Flight Simulator. The game is not really optimized although that will change in the future when Microsoft releases it for the XBOX Series X as they plan on applying their optimization techniques to the PC version.

Nahh. 5000 series will work with 500 series motherboard once you update mobo bios but because you are paying a heavy price make sure it has a good b550 or x570 mobo.

7 years is not really realistic, the processor should last that long but expect to need a video card upgrade in about the middle of that time.

Not necessarily - I just recently sold my 1070 Ti FE that I had bought in early 2018 (3 years later) for more money I paid for it new. I know this is due to a wonky time and circumstances we are living in. I also decided on a 6800 XT - this GPU is amazing. The upgrade decision was not due to a dissatisfaction with performance - it just made financial sense.

That SSD better be a good SSD model and that RAM is 3400MHz CAS18 when 3600MHz RAM CAS16 is exactly the same price and sometime cheaper. That PSU? 1000 watts doesn't say much except the wattage.

It's really important to know what brand and model parts you buy.

Thanks, those are great questions. The RAM is HyperX Fury as they advertise that memory, I don't know the CAS Latency but I will ask them. I went ahead and cancelled my order because I thought the dark case had RGB lights throughout. I come to find out that it's only the two tone white and black case that has that feature. So I will wait for the next 10% off promo and in the mean time I am going to ask them the brands of parts they use.

Regarding the RAM, if you go to the Alienware site I think those are based on XMP so they could be overclocked RAM, so thanks for mentioning the RAM speeds. The case though is pretty slick and from the Alienware video on the same website it's pretty easy to work on. It's a tool-less design and the PSU is on a swing-out arm and it allows you free access to the mobo etc. I am under no illusion that Dell is using quality parts. That's where a custom build comes in but only IF those critical parts are available, which they are not. I see this as a bounty for system builders.

I also realize there are really good quality custom builders out there such as Falcon NW-PC's, iBuyPower, CyberPC. Those will let you customize your build down to parts. However it will cost 1.5x more than a comparable Alienware. I went to iBuyPower and tried to spec out a similar Alienware build and I was easily in the $3299 range.

The one prebuilt PC that intrigues me is the MSI Trident X. It's a slim Tower that can handle a RTX 3080 but it's $2800.

Very few people here would recommend a CyberPowerPC.

Abysmal warranty. Their warranty is 1 year. Even thought the individual parts may have 2-3-5 year warranties, you only get 1 year.

Funny you should say that because after I posted my specs for the CyberPowerPC, I read some reviews and every one of them was 1 star. So I deleted the configuration from my cart. No thanks don't want to take a chance with them.

Hey guys, I found this sweet deal on Amazon. Amazon is selling it for $2,199.99 and it looks to be a standard full tower case. The bad news it's backordered till Feb 12th with an estimated arrival date of April 11-14th. It should arrive sooner.
