External Hard drive problem?

I have a 150 GB WD External Hard Drive for storing stuff like music/pictures etc and this morning I went to click it and it says no files avaliable. Still says it has 116GB out of the 150GB Free? If anyone has a solution please tell me.

With external hard drives, it's usually the SATA-USB bridge chip (a small PCB) which fails before the actual drive fails.

When that happens, you need to crack open the enclosure, take out the drive, and put it into a third-party enclosure if possible.
