External Hard Drive USB 3.0 slow speed

Hey there! Well, I just bought and external - Hitachi Touro Mobile 1TB. First time I used it, I transferred files for around 100gb and I can say it's pretty fast. But now, after an hour I guess, transferring files around 70gb started from 50mb/sec slowed down to 5mb/sec. I tried to edit the policies tab in device manager to "Better Performance" and tried to copy the files again (which is 70gb), yet still no good. It dropped from 30mb/sec to 9mb/sec. To add, I tried transferring 2gb of file and it took me 3 minutes to complete it. Please HELP! Thanks in advance.

This is normal with ex drives. The speed will vary out of nowhere. And it will give different speeds while coping from different partitions (C:, D:, E:,).

Hi! I'm kinda confused on your answer, as USB 3 should be faster than USB 2 (given with a usb 3 port)...I mean can you please explain further? and what's the best way to know if my external is running the way it should which is a USB 3.0? thanks

correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I've understood, USB 3 from their tests are still about 3 times faster than USB 2. But mine is working with speeds like USB 2 instead of USB 3.
