I have a new m-itx pc im building and becuase of the mounting of the internal Hdd i was finding cable manegment extremely difficult, i then went digging in the cuboard for a boot drive to install windows, after i shived the panel on, and found a unused WD 1Tb External Hdd and had the idea of using this a primary drive untill i can get an ssd which will fit (probs Nvme), so is this possible and how difficult is it to configure and have work, and what speeds would i be looking at?

Thanks in advance, and sorry for spelling

I mean that you can boot to an external drive by setting that drive to be the boot drive in BIOS Setup.

If the external drive is an eSATA drive, it is easy, and it will be pretty much like an internal SATA drive. If the external drive is USB, it may take another step or two in BIOS, and it will work, but everything will be slowed down by the USB connection.
