Recently I've been getting very low gaming performance on my Asus Strix GL503GE laptop. My specs are:
CPU: I7-8750H
GPU: GTX 1050ti 4GB
RAM: 16GB
Storage: Windows 10 on 128gb Adata SSD and a 1TB HDD for games.

What happens is I run a game like Dark Souls or Elden Ring (not the most demanding games but I still play them on the low quality settings), and I can never achieve consistent FPS. For a few minutes I would get above 60fps, then it would drop to below 20 for a minute. Even if I lower the game resolution to something extremely low like 800x600, I would still see these drops in FPS, though they occur less often this way.
I know the laptop is a bit old now and I can't expect to run games consistently above 60FPS, but it is just outright unplayable currently. I would be happy to have consistent 30FPS+.

The components aren't overheating - during gaming the GPU and CPU do not go above 70℃ and I am getting above 50% utilization on both most of the time.
I am not running any background tasks when gaming - no browsers, no other programs running in parallel.
The games are running on the Nvidia GPU, not the integrated graphics.
I tried defragmenting my HDD in case it was slowing down anything, but no improvements from that.
I am running the latest version of the BIOS for my laptop from the Asus website - 319.
I have updated my graphics drivers to the latest version.
I tried running the game in full-screen and windowed mode, no difference between them.
I have disabled the Nvidia game overlay and Windows game bar.

I have no Idea what to do to fix this. Just last year I played the same games without such issues, and now I can't play without dropping frames every minute. What else can I try to fix this?
