Hey guys! As stated in the title, I'm running into some very poor fps while playing fallout 4 in 1440p. My setup is a gtx 1080, i7 4790 and 12gb ddr3 ram. I have no idea what is the cause of the poor fps. I've played games like witcher 3, AC origins, and farcry 5 all in ultra settings and 1440p without having any fps issues at all, but with fallout 4 pretty much no matter what settings I put, the fps just sucks. It only ever becomes really good if I play it in 1080p which completely defeats the purpose of getting a 1440p monitor. Can anyone help me? :(

sorry, forgot that part. with 1080p fallout 4 runs at 80-100+ fps constantly, but when i go 1440 it drops down to 45-60 no matter where i am or what im doing and no matter what settings either

I test your specs on gamesystemrequirements.com & Fallout 4 Recommends i7 4790 CPU with (GTX 1080 GPU & 12GB RAM). 1440p on Very High Settings got only 45 fps.
You should upgrade your CPU faster than i7 4790 to get higher fps or you will stay at 1080p resolution

got it! will getting ddr4 ram make a big difference as well?

well my best guess if the reason you were getting bad fps on such a beast of a graphics card is due to your cpu bottlenecking it also you will probally be fine with the ddr3 ram but if you really wanted to get a little more performance you could go ddr4 but I'd save the money to get a better cpu go to this website and enter your specs and it will tell you what bottle neck your cpu is producing and what cpu(s) are the best for the setup https://thebottlenecker.com/calculator
