Hi guys,

I'm trying to set up a sensible fan curve for my rig but I'm finding a bit of a bind - not helped by the fact that I always end up starting a fresh every time I update my bios. Spec in sig.

I just want something quiet but effective when idle/doing light work and then something more aggressive when I game and do more demanding work.

So, I initially go with something like this:

CPU TempFAN Speed
40 Celsius40%
50 Celsius50%
60 Celsius60%
70 Celsius70%
80 Celsius80%
90 Celsius100%

But I'm never really sure which one of the many cpu related temp readings (from monitors in Windows) the bios is reading from?

In the bios I only see the one reading for cpu temp but in Windows, apps like HWMonitor, show me multiple.

In the picture below for example, which reading is the bios taking for the curve?

And why is my min. value being reported as '0 RPM?' I read that as the fans are off? But I don't see how they can be with my current settings... any temp up to 40 degrees will always result in the cpu fans running at 40% right?

And what about the readings from the cpu itself in Windows?

They always seem to be a lot higher? And I accept that the cpu is going to be working harder in Windows than it is in the bios etc.

Thanks.

Can you confirm that CPU cooler fan is actually stopped when it reads 0rpm ? Most probably it does run or PC would shut off. Possible cause that either BIOS or program can't read rpm under some value. Also make sure that CPU_Fan header is set to PWM in BIOS.After many years of experience, I found that too intricate settings for fan speed have little or no effect on cooling. A straight line curve between starting point on idle and max rpm just before highest allowable temperature for particular CPU works just as well as any. In your case it's between 40 and 90c.

I don't think the fan/s do switch off and I don't recall them ever being set to? I have dual fans, on a Noctua PWM splitter.

When you say a straight line curve do you have a template of values in mind? I think my bios supports x4.

Thanks!

Based on processor and it's cooler which is well oversized for it, I'd say minimum rpm (about 600) at 40 c and maximum at 80 or 85c, don't bother with anything in between, will make no difference.
