FAR CRY ing out loud - reality check

Its not a habit, I just dont play any fps games. I downloaded demo farcry I did not buy it, and it was my first real experience with FPS game. It does not work with a joystick and I'm now pretty sure rightly so. However I did not know that because I don't really play FPS games. I thought I had explained that already.

If I glanced at a spilt box of tooth picks on the floor, could I tell you how many are in the pile. Not a chance, But then again I don't have to buy my underware at Kmart.

Ok sounds like a promise but I have never played fps with a joystick simply because it did not have that option, I am interested in learning FPS at least trying half life2. Looks like I am going to have to get good or comfortable with a keyboard.

I think Im gonna have to agree with Slava here, Far Cry is not all its cracked up to be. Yeh it has nice graphics, but graphics dont make a game.

one word... BOATS !!! the AI is utterly insane at times & the jumping is pathetic but I get to drive a boat around with guns on... I am a happy camper now...

Trust me I know what I'm doing... ooops, grab the cat...

And did you know the num Lock key switches to the secondary fire mode on the boat as well as your other guns, letting you fire the rockets from the boat too. Those are alot of fun as a direct hit takes out anything.

I'm relieved that I finished the game so i can get more work done. To me it was a very good game that came almost out of nowhere, which is much better than HL2 and others that we have expected for ages and still have no idea when we will see it.

Medal of honor pacific assault is now pushed off until September. Ugh.

Farcry is like a girl that looks pretty but has no personality.....

That is probably the best description I have heard of Far Cry. However, a pretty girl can be fun too...

I think that Slava's grievances are a bit extreme though. I play at challenging and at the cooler level it was not too hard to outrun the rocket dude and Shotgun the monkeys in the next room. However, I totally agree that the save point before this was wrongly placed. Other than that I think the save points are frequent enough...

Far Cry is the best new shooter in a while, but it ain't earth shattering like some would have you belive.

BTW, Serious Sam and Max Payne also started out as tech demos. Nothing wrong in that.

I just beat the game (no cheating!) and the ending lasted about 25 seconds! Are there multiple endings or what? Jack simply gives valerie the antidote and she wakes up...then credits. WTF! There were longer cutscenes in the first 2 hours of the game! Plus that last room in the volcano.....wayyy wayyyyyy too difficult. Its not cool to shoot enemies from afar to find you cannot hit them (the guy on the right platform bridge when looking out from the entrance door). When did thos trigents get the ability to snipe so perfectly with the OCIW?

Yup, the last two big fights were the hardest, and after that the ending did seem lame and rushed. Overall i still think it is a very fun and great looking game.

Time to install the patch and play a little multiplayer.

Well, at this point I tend to think that there is actually something special about the game because I have not seen any “moderate” opinions. People either totally hate it or absolutely love it. This is an indication of something out of the ordinary.

However, this gets me thinking that my initial review that started this seemingly endless thread was right on.

There are things to LOVE about this game and there are things to HATE about this game.

While this means an out of the ordinary experience (and I’VE BEEN THERE!) it does not mean “GOOD GAME”.

No.

But all of us, gamers, do have a hope that this is a not-so-bad a beginning of a new era of FPS.

The game is fun and looks good and is technically superior to anything else out there.... it just doesnt compel me to play....

She just lays there, then she gets _real_ active, then she bites a bit too hard just to say something that totally turns you off.

Fra Cry goes from boring to tense to cool to frustrating. However, like a girl with no personality she gets boring too quick. I get more an more bored with this game as it progresses and don't think I'll fininsh it since I got TRON 2.0 today.
