I have an ASUS RTX 3080 Strix OC on preorder. I've had it on order since launch day, but apparently I wasn't first in the queue, since I still haven't received it.
I'm getting pretty tired of not having a GPU for my new PC...
Now, the RX 6800 XT launches in a week. Should I try to compete for that, and then cancel the order if I get it, or should I just stick with my preorder?
I'm unsure, since I'm using an i7 10700K, so I wont have access to the SAM stuff, and now rumors are going around that Nvidia will make something similar which is compatible for either CPU.
I currently run 1080p 144hz, but I'm planning to upgrade into 1440p 144hz+ at some point. I have no plans to go into 4k in the near future, so I'm not sure if the VRAM difference will have any significant impact for future-proofing.
I think Ray Tracing looks really good in games like Watch Dogs Legion and I'm definitely planning on using it where possible.
What would you do? It seems like benchmarks only release on the launch day itself, so stock will be gone when they go live...

Solution
Well this is a bad time to get a new parts. Even heard stories like how this one guy preored his ryzen 5000 and then the retailer tells him that they might not be able to fulfill his orders until next year. Maybe you can try to "fight" for it but don't cancel you initial preorder on 3080 just yet. We shall see how thing goes in a while. Plus it seems you have no problem about getting 3080 vs what ever AMD card you intend to buy so it won't be an issue for you if your 3080 end up arriving 1st right?

Personally i'm very itching to upgrade my aging 970 as well. Although i'm only gunning for x60 class of gpu at best (that should launch in january). If the situation also affecting mainstream gpu then i might end up turning my attention...

Solution
I took a risk and went 3080 on release day for 1440p 144Hz (occasionally 4K 120Hz) and am very happy with it and no sign of any vram limitations. Personally I would not buy AMD on day one. In my opinion their track record on drivers is not as good and they have had some gpu models that weren’t great. For me AMD have to prove they can compete at the top again for gpu’s. To me proven good driver support is something worth paying extra for. I’d have to see a few months of good reviews before I’d consider AMD.
