Find me a motherboard.

Whos bios are you using. I have heard that oc workbench has some really good bios for the K7S5A boards. I found that with the A cores the uni-bridge really kept the temps down. Wish more chipsets could run without the south bridge.

Lol. Yeah I know.

GW I'm on my second computer (basically an upgrade that went in 3 steps, eventually becoming a whole new computer), and I can tell you that anyone who says "ooo, ooo, buy from newegg" or googlegear, or whatever, is just a FANBOY, just like all the nVidiots out there. So they've had one (or more) good experience(s). So what?

I've bought all my crap from probly about 15 different places. Some of them small or lesser known ones (or, heaven forbid, only 2 or 3 stars on pricegrabber! Actually most I didn't find through pricegrabber). The customer support has been excellent with all of them, and the delivery has arrived on time or sooner. I've also bought from local stores when its in my best interest.

I have bought from newegg AND googlegear. I wasn't dissappointed, but I wasn't impressed either. In fact, one email I sent to one of those places (I forget which), actually got me a COMPUTER RESPONSE. Wow. Thats customer service. See, the small-timers actually have time, and care about, YOU, because they dont get 20,000 orders per-second like newegg and googlegear. I even had a very interesting and lengthy conversation via email with the manager + co-owner of one of the places I ordered from.

The CHEAPEST place (after tax [if any] and shipping [if any]) is almost always the best place to buy from.

I recommend noone.

If you can find your mobo on http://www.gameve.com they have good vendor prices on some products. (They did at least on my MSI TI4200's.) Alsol try http://www.newegg.com

My OS features preemptive multitasking, a fully interactive command line, & support for 640K of RAM!

Get an ABIT NF7 v2.0. I'm using one, and very happy with it. Good for overclocking, too.

Spitfire_x86, the Buyer's Guide needs to be updated considreing the recent news about nVidia's FX line performing poorly in DX9 applications like Tombraider.

You said red, so how about the worst of the nforce boards for fifty bucks (after rebate)http://www.gameve.com/store/gameve_listhotdealsproducts.asp?curpage=2 The biostar board aint great, but it is red. Never used gameve, but I hear they are ok.

GW

you want a fast mobo? is your ram generic or high quality

cause i know of a very, very fast single channel nforce2 400 mobo that usually ouperforms the old dual channel versions, because it has a new memory controller

THIS WILL be the mobo ill be ordring in a month. its dirt freaking cheap, faster than current nforce2 baords and doenst require dual channel do get the performance. good for me, because all i do is game (if you video edit or compress files, maybe a dual channel boards will be better) and i have cheap ram, that i can use on this board

check out the benches =)
o/c's nice too
Comments on Performance Tests
The gaming benchmarks certainly tell a remarkable story when we look at the Soltek NV400 single-channel board. In almost every gaming benchmark — even the very demanding Gun Metal DX9 benchmark — the NV400-L64 finishes first or second. This puts it on a par with the best nForce2 Ultra 400 boards, at least in the gaming arena.

Although the Soltek performs well in Content Creation, General Usage, and MPEG-4 Encoding benchmarks, it is not a clear winner, falling slightly behind the best Ultra 400 boards.

I'd highly recommend newegg. I've gotten, oh, $7000 worth of parts off them this year alone. I build a lot of gaming rigs out of my house. Best shipping I've encountered anywhere. 2 days tops, most of the time & I'm in MI. Return policy is great. Out of all of those parts I've sent back exactly 1. It was a MOBO with the wrong revision. Less than a week turn around.

I have used other vendors that were just as reliable, but were so slow on shipping. It's just a pain to wait for a week to get parts. Then when something is wrong, the return, UGH!

Well, I didn't think that was gonna happen!!!

The only online e-tailer I know/trust that sells stuff to the U.S. is NCIX.COM, they are located in Burnaby B.C., but they ship stateside. They are pretty good, but you'd probably do better with a US only e-tailer like newegg, etc.

As for the board I told you I was interested in the GA 7NNXP (I've now decided to wait a while for the A-64s). Check out that link for a comparison to the EPOX and the ASUS, along with some Solteks.

I would suggest the little brother the GA-7N400 line which is lacking the DPS (big deal!?!) and gigabit ethernet, but has most other items ; GA-7N400PRO (w/ serial ATA, 4 IDE w/ raid $121 @ newegg , GA-7N400L (w/ Realtek Audio) $85 @ Newegg /L1 (w/ nV MAC + Realtek audio); GA7N400 (no onboard LAN)
The performance of the GA-7N400Pro has been shown to be pretty good. I'd prefer the advantages of the GA-7NNXP (espeically that glowing blue DPS), but it is a little on the pricey side.
I do like the quality and support from Gigabyte.

Anywho that's my op-onion.

- You need a licence to buy a gun, but they'll sell anyone a stamp (or internet account) ! RED GREEN GA to SK

Whatever you do don't buy from overclockers. I bought my RAM and motherboard from them. My RAM was faulty within 2 weeks, I run a memtest like Windows tells me to do and it can't even complete the memtest cause the RAM freezes the computer. Phone them up and tell them the problem and that it failed the memtest, their technicians response was

"You've got Corsair RAM, oh the problem is that you need to change your clock settings. It's a standard issue with Corsair RAM"

Didn't think this had anything to do with the problem but did it anyway. Phoned up later saying that it still wasn't working and reitterating the failed Windows memtest. Their technician then tells me to download a different memtest software, try it and call back. Download the new memtest, use it and low and behold it fails the test 5 times in a row.

I Phone back up and tell them that it's failed and they tell me to send it back on RMA as stated on the website. Check the website and it says I need an RMA number, I didn't ask for this previously as they'd taken all my details including my receipt number. Phone them up for the RMA number and the technicians have closed for the night even though the shop's still open. I get an e-mail telling me my RMA number but seen as my computer wasn't working it was a few days before I could get it (why didn't they just tell me on the phone).

I send it off, the website says that it takes 7-10 days from recieving the parcel before I get it back. Wait a week and nothin happens, wait a second week as it says 10 days and nothin happens. Don't have time to deal with it as I'm off on holiday the following day for a week. Come back and still no RAM, I send them an e-mail as it's now been 26 days. They make some cheap ass excuse and apologise. I get the package a few days later and find out it was shipped the day after I complained.

So not only did it cost me £5 in telephone calls, not only did it cost me an extra £3.50 to send it off but they didn't even bother to send it back to me without me reminding them.

My motherboard is also faulty as it won't boot with dual banked RAM in slots A1 and B1 but will if it's in slots A2 and B2 but after the hassle I've had with the RAM and that it would cost me more on technical bills and shipping than the RAM did I'm not bothering and just sticking to one dual banked RAM and not purchasing from thm again.

When did you become an "old hand"? Dang, and I thought I would catch up to you.

My OS features preemptive multitasking, a fully interactive command line, & support for 640K of RAM!

Yea, the latest Forum authority & Poster? I'd listen & learn some things. Posts aren't everything. Respect comes after the long haul, if you know what I mean? Your kinda young & a tad green I'd say, after reading a lot of your posts.

I could be wrong though. I was once. Maybe twice?

Well, I didn't think that was gonna happen!!!
