I know this is the graphics card forum but I dont care.
I need to order a motherboard online, but have never bought online before. I dont know who to trust.
What I want is something like an MSI K7N2, or other good Nforce2 board. Preferably red. I have a hundred bucks US.
I appreciate the help.

Gigabyte & Asus boards have always had a great reputation. Personally, I usually stick with Gigabyte. They provide onboard sound(Creative PCI 128) and Realtech 10/100 LAN support. Also, the Dual Bios feature can be handy, if you mess up flashing the Bios, or you encounter severe Virus that attacks the first BIOS.

P.S. GW has never bought a motherboard before???? Uh oh, "General Fault Error 3dc0893d3nd838" This system has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down, because this statement from GW cannot be interpreted due to the impossible variables presented.

Next, Blue screen of death.

Silly Goose:)
Read my post again please. I have never bought online before
Of course I've bought motherboards before.
I need an online retailer that I can trust, and one that has the board that I want.

PooBaa, I was just reading about the Epox board you mentioned. Anand gave it an excellent review.
I'm also thinking about an Asus A7N8X. Nforce boards are alot cheaper then I thought.
My current motherboard resets my bios to default settings once or twice a day, depending on how often I reboot.
You can understand how frustrating that is:)

It's a board that everyone know's is crap, so it's no big deal. It cost me $35 bucks and was only supposed to be temporary. ECS K7S5A/SiS735 chipset.
I just need to get it replaced before I can justify buying a new Radeon.

I can't make up my mind if you are serious about this, CoolSquirtle. Some of your comments have been consisten/inconsistent about this matter, but usually when you take take the Nvidia side, you come across as joking, but not always. Then, sometimes you take the ATi side, and come across as serious.

think of it this way. I love nVidia cause i have one, but it's like saying that i have a BMW M3 but Benz has the SL600, so is the SL600 better? DUH! is the M3 good? DUH!
do i love me M3? DUH! so is BMW the best? DUH! is Benz better? DUH!

now think about this.
I have Ti4200, all my friends have either 9000pros or GeForce 2s, so my Ti4200 wastes all of them therefore i love my Ti4200 and therefore i love nVidia. Now ATi might be better, but i dont have one. the about having a FX5900Ultra. I do wish i have one, cause i love nVidia, but i dont think ATi suck.

Understand now? now if u'll excuse me, i'll have to spam PNY about RMAing my love Ti4200 back or my dad will slaughter me........

Well I've been using the 8RDA3+ mobo since april. Currently have a 2500 barton @ 2405mhz 200fsb. My memory is holding me back from higher fsb's but for the most part its been good for me.

I have had some issues with a 1700 and this current cpu, but I think it was my bad psu rather than the motherboard. If I was gonna get a new nforce 2 mobo, I would try the NF 7-S rev 2 coz they get super sweet FSB's, upto 250mhz in some cases! If you aint really into overclocking though, the A7N8X or NF7-S boards have soundstorm.

I do wish i have one, cause i love nVidia,

why

its a company. not a football team. its not like were rooting for a certain team here..

i dont get why people are like that. "uhhh i know the 5900ultra was pure marketing and hype, but i still want one bceause i like the name "nvidia"..."

wheres the sense in that. i just dont see it. its the same with anyhting, ATI too..

does it feel neat when you say it? its it because its American? is it because your friends all like nvidia?

WIth that kind of OC'ing I wouldn't doubt that you have probs. Look at it: You have the MHz almost as fast as the stock PR rating - so that's a MASSIVE overclock and I'm surprized you were able to take it that far IMO (for an Athlon as they haven't OCed as nearly as well as P4's lately).

I'm using an Asus P4P800 with a 2.6GHzC P4 and I'm finding it quite good, works very well in DVD De/Encoding especially when performing other mundane tasks like Winamp, 3 Webpages, Freecell, Kazaa and Bittorent so shold handle games fine.

Hey GW. I recently bought 2 computers worth of stuff off Newegg. They have great prices and excellent service. I have used them many times and have never had a problem.

Good luck with your new motherboard

Of course it should run all of those things fine, assuming you didn't cram a TNT2 Vanta 8 megabyte in there or something along those lines.

All the AMD cpu's ive tried overclocked pretty well, with some exceptions.

My 1700 went to 2386mhz on 1.9v, where as my 2100 would only go upto 2.3ghz on 1.9v. My first 2500 barton went to 2350mhz on 1.9v and my current one maxes out (for my cooling anyway) at 2436mhz on 1.83v. But even at 2405mhz/1.8v it only reaches 51c max load and at 3200 speeds it idles below 40c lol! I'm currently un decided wether I actually need the extra speed or wether I should keep it at 2300mhz on just 1.7v to prolong the life of the cpu rather than ramming 1.8v down it just for an extra 100mhz...

I'm pretty sure that my 2500 was a 3200, because it does 2250mhz on stock voltage and @ 2200mhz (3200 speed) it only needs 1.6 volts. I bet at stock speed, this thing would run on 1.45-1.5 volts, now thats a cool chip!

GW I have an asus a7n8x-delux, one of the newer rev. 2 (ultra 400) ones, (caues i gave my old one to my mom). Both of the boards have been totally great not a single problem with either of them, and both could easily overclock to 200mhz fsb from the start. (and my current one can do about 215, no mods, cept the vantec iceberq on the nb).

My friend chris (jimmy dean) has an MSI k7n2-delta ilsr or something (the high-end one), its nice too, and RED, and so far I don't believe hes had any problems with it.

Also my friend Joe has an epox 8RDA3+, an XP2600, 512 corsair xms3200, and an slk-800 and vantec tornado, and he cant do past 195 fsb, and even thats not 100% stable. Hes even flashed the bios, and lowered the multiplier and memory timings. I know that thats not the case with all epox boards, but there are good and bad samples of everything.

The one thing I like about the MSI is the optical out for surround sound, other than that I would prefer my board.

Plus GW they have this spray on stuff for PCB. You spray some primer crap and then spray a color of your choosing on, and it only sticks to the primer which only sticks to PCB.
