Firewall system.exe and IE question

Hello,

I use Kerio Personal Firewall and I get hits of connections wanting to be made to system.exe on a daily basis. I was curious as to whether or not I should perma-accept or perma-block these requests? Are they necessary for XP to check for updates or anything?

And secondly... how do I set it so that when I click "open in new window" in Internet Explorer... the window is automatically maximized? It is annoying having to max it manually each time.
