Flash Drive Issue

Hello,
I have a copy pics file all can be seen in vista home it copies on to usb stick whchhas plenty of memory but when I re connect usb the files not their if i copy again it says copy or replace but its not there?

Are you ejecting the flash drive properly, i.e. clicking on the eject usb device icon near the time?
